Annual Report January to December 2020
BILIE Human Rights Initiative continues to work to defend the human rights of people from the Biafra area of Nigeria. Despite the continued injustices and extrajudicial killings perpetrated against innocent and peaceful people, we are confident that the global community will come to the aid of the Biafran people given the universal nature of human rights and the principle of universal jurisdiction.
We have been funded mostly by donations of our members and would like to thank them for their time and resources. Most of our resourcing comes through in-kind donations from members and friends that may not be accounted for as volunteering and in-kind donations are not financial. With such a meagre income of three hundred and fifty pound (£350.00) we were able to do much more through collaboration, partnership, and innovation.
We will continue to do more partnerships and collaboration in the coming years.
Below are some of the activities we conducted 2020:
-
Regular monthly meetings, although we had to transfer to an online mode because of the lockdown.
-
Partnership with the Inter-Society of Civil Liberties Onitsha, Nigeria. We are pleased that our work with Inter-Society has led to the gathering and collating of evidence of crimes against humanity by the Nigerian Government and political leaders.
-
Engagement with the British Government through Members of Parliament
-
Filing a case at the International Criminal Court in the Hague regarding Human Rights abuses in Nigeria.
-
Correspondence with critical stakeholders nationally and internationally
-
Research and development of initiatives
We are very pleased with our work and would continue to work hard for upholding human rights of Biafran people all over the world.
Thank you very much.
