BHAMUSON FOUNDATION CHARITY
Trustees’ Annual Report for the Period 1[st] April 2021 to 31[st] March 2022
The trustees present their report together with a financial statement for the period from the commencement of 1[st] April 2021 to 31[st] March 2020. Bhamuson is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered with the Charity Commission under registration number 1172860.
Our Mission Statement
Our aim, as reflected in the objects of the charity, to help under-privileged children in Nigeria and other developing nations, primarily by assisting children attending primary schools from the age of 3 to 16 years old. We intend to do this by assisting underfunded and dilapidated primary schools in the refurbishment of classrooms to provide a conducive learning environment for the children, and providing educational/stationery supplies, including textbooks and reading books covering the school curriculum. In addition, we sponsor children not able to pay the school levies or afford their school uniforms. This is achieved by raising funds and receiving gift donations from generous donors.
Our Organisation
The charity is a very small organisation, set up to provide a great start to the educational life of young children. The charity is made up of four trustees and twenty volunteers giving their time, without receiving any remuneration or other benefits. The trustees are: -
-
Ms. Sheila Abia-Okon – Chair (Resident in UK)
-
Mrs. Bukky Nuru – Secretary (Resident in Nigeria)
-
Mrs. Funmi Elelu – (Resident in Nigeria)
-
Mr. Komi Omadoye – (Resident in UK)
Overview
The main objective of the Foundation for 2021/22, was to continue to provide much-needed books to schools we felt need our support and sponsor at least 24 under privileged children. Unfortunately, the impact of COVID 19, high energy costs and general cost of living has grossly hampered the activities of charity. Hence unable to raise funds or accept book donations from family & friends. The charity however did maintain the number of children the charity sponsored.
Our Achievements
This year our achievements have been hampered by the impact of post the pandemic. Nevertheless, we were able to meet one of last year objectives of maintaining the number of children we sponsor. This gives us immeasurable joy to be able to still be in the position to

help 24 less privileged children pay their levy fees, lesson fees, PTA fees and provide them with complete school uniforms, bags, books and stationeries. In actual fact it costs no more than £40 per child per year. These children were sponsored from the six previous schools Oke Pakata, Alore ‘B’, Oyatedo Oro Ago, & Ogunyin/Oke Ago, Apalara Adewole & Adeta schools.

Financial Review
Donations Received
The charity’s principal sources of funding are from the generous donations received from the trustees, their family, friends and work colleagues. COVID has resulted in the charity generating only £145 from UK donors.
Funds Spent
This has been a challenging year, as the charity did not meet the book target, however £500 was spent sponsoring 26 under privilege children (@ approximately £19 per child).
Our Target/Performance
One of our objectives was to raise £300 including gifts, which we unfortunately did not achieve due to the pandemic. Instead, the charity only received £145. Nevertheless, COVID 19 has put an enormous strain on the world economy, with many families and business suffering great financial losses.
Future plans
For 2022/23 we intend to set more realistic goals to reflect the current economic climate due post COVID 19 and the Ukraine war. We aim to focus on raising a minimum of £150 to meet maintaining the sponsoring of 24 under privileged Children. For the coming year our book project will be put on hold.
Our open invitation to the readers of our annual report is to support our plans, by considering making regular donations to our charity. On behalf of the Trustees, we thank all our volunteers and donors for their generous support.
