èxdusprfety charitablo including the advancemerrt of cthzenship (including
helping young people to develop through education and utilising their
talents), promoting the Voluntary Sector for the public benefit, promoting
volunteering, helping towards relieving poverty arK* helping those in need
due to natural di8a8ters, the advancement of health and hel￿ng those wtth
di8abiliti88, promoting con88r¥alion and the improvement and protection of
8nNyronm•nt.

The primary ethos of the ClublCIO ig to rai8e ￿ndS from peopb living in.
worklng in or vi8iting the London Borough of Bromley to enabl8 it to make
tharitabla grant8 to residants, (x)mmunlty groups or other charitable
organisations operatlng within Ihat area who need charftable assistantx.
All Club membar8 gNe thèir time fr88ty tn order to achiove this aim and on
occasion will give their time as a volunteer to as$￿t other charitabl• and
qua81 charitable organisations to raise funds themselves.
Fund8 ar6 raised through licensed street collections, Qulz Nlghts, a Lucky
Dip stall at local fairs and festNals and through th• holding of social
events. Quiz N￿hts arKI social events invariably indude a raffle to rai88

ordinarily reactive in that it does not usualty reach out to people or
organisations but con•lder8 requests for financial or othor assistance on a
¢ag&byuse balis but tho Trustees retain the discretion to make an
award without a request {e.g. at Chri8tma8 when a number of local
Ghartlies were identified and donation8 made). M08t grants are to assist
other ch8ritl88 which operate on the Yronl Ilne, of charftabte a88iStance.
Olher grants are to Lion8 appèals (which may be nats'onal or int6mation81
in nature), to local communlty groups aThd to Indtvldual8, atthough when
doaling wbth indivÉduals it is customary to pay for item8. ewipmont or
con8truGtion work rather than slmply giving cash.

The Trustses of Bromley Lions Club CIO aro fully aware. when considering
recommendations by the club memb8ryJhip to make charitabte grants, that
such grants must always Satisfy th8 'Public B8nefft' test and that decislon
making must ￿ in accordance with the Guidanc8 issued by the Chanty
Commi88ion.

who ￿nduCtS limrted due diligence to ensure requ88ts app8ar legitimate
and ar8 w￿hTrn Ihe Club's geographical Jurisdlction. If satisfied, lh8 Welfare
Officer bring8 the matter to he Club membership at the next monthty
meeting. If accepted and 8 grant is considered reasonable the dub
membership ihen r8fer8 the request a8 a recommendation to the Trusteeg
who make the final d8Ci8ion. Etther th membership c( th8 Trustees can
reject the proposal or refer it back to the Welfare Offi(*r w(th a request to
conduct further due diligence.

The CIO is the successor to Bromley Lions Club. which vffis originally
chartered as a Lions Club on 61h February 1987. This is the seventh year
of oper8tion8 a8 a CIO. The CIO ha8 continued the activitie8 of the old
Club which, rather by default {duè to other local Lion8 Club8 in the
London Boroughs of Bromlay and Croydon havlng c•M•d opwationl)
now covering quit• a larga gooaraphical area.
