Trustees Report 2021

Introduction

Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic 2021 has been a challenging year for the Zim Project. The report below details various aspects of the ZimProject and the successes and challenges we have faced in 2021. Lockdown rules continued to apply in 2021 in Zimbabwe which affected our plans and our students. Nevertheless, all of our students remain in education and have passed their respective curriculums.

Students

All of our students are still at school or University and are continuing their education. We are very proud of all our students and what they have accomplished. It has continued to be a tough year, for both our university students and school students. There have been challenges with ever changing fees, changing rules and social implications but they have come through and succeeded.

FUELED Monthly Event

The FUELED monthly event for the young people of Redcliff is still on hold. This is still due to restrictions from lockdown and difficulty in booking a venue.

Lasting Impressions Leadership Camp

Due to lockdown rules still in force, this has been postponed to 2022. It may be that we will have to run 2 camps in 2022 to ensure all our students can participate in leadership camp. This is dependent on funds raised.

Finances

In terms of finances, the economy seems to be a bit more settled than in 2020 and so fees have stayed consistent which has brought a bit of stability to the ZimProject. Some of our University students have had to look for accommodation outside of the Universities own accommodation (due to lack of space and prioritising of 1st year students) which has cost us more but this has been paid for.

The sponsors have remained consistent as well for the most part which has kept our funding of the students fees going.

No fundraising was carried out this year as no camps were planned this year.

Soup Kitchen

In 2020 we began supporting about 14 street kids by providing them with meals during this time. This evolved into a soup kitchen that we continue to do in 2021. Whilst feeding them, we also spend time talking to them and trying to help them with their situations. Numbers now fluctuate between 3 and 20

students but we continue to believe in the consistency of helping these students without an agenda in the hope that they make better decisions as one has done previously (see 2020 report).

Letters and Communication

Letters and communication continue to be an important part of The ZimProject and there has been a steady exchange of communication between sponsors and students throughout 2021 which has been incredibly valuable to the students especially, as well as the sponsors.

Thank you

We would like to thank all of you for supporting us this year. It has continued to be a tough year for everyone in Zimbabwe even though more globally the world has moved on from COVID-19 and lockdown. Because of your donation and support, our students are still studying and making a life for themselves. You’ve done so much for so many and we are sure we are echoing their words when we say there are no words to express how grateful we are for you.
