Three Peas: Report of the Trustees for the year ending 30[th] September 2025

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES for the year ending 30 September 2025

1. STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

The Trustees present the report and financial statements for Three Peas from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025. The charity is governed by its Constitution. The trustees are responsible for the overall management and control of the charity. The financial statements are prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1[st ] January 2015), (Charities SORP FRS 102) and the Charities Act 2011.

Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees:

The Constitution provides for a minimum of three trustees. Should there be a requirement for new trustees they would be identified and appointed by the current trustees taking into account their relevant skills, knowledge and experience. Trustees are confirmed in their post at the Annual General Meeting. A new trustee would receive a copy of the current Constitution, the previous year’s Annual Report and Accounts, and a copy of the Charity commission leaflet “The Essential Trustee: What You Need to Know”.

Operation and Risk Management :

The trustees administer the charity along with two additional members, and meetings are held monthly. The trustees are aware of their duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error. The charity maintains a risk register and policy and areas of potential operational risk are reviewed at these meetings. Financial sustainability is the main risk for the charity. However, this is monitored by regularly reviewing and reporting of the available funds and ensuring sufficient funding is in place ahead of any new commitment, and by carefully vetting all recipients of funds.

2. OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Purpose of the Charity:

The purpose of the charity is to operate for the benefit of the public in the prevention or relief of poverty of refugees in Europe and the developing world by providing grants, items, and services to individuals in need and/or charities or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty.

Aims and Activities

Three Peas is committed to providing essential grassroots support to vulnerable refugees in Europe. Activity to date has been focussed on Greece, with principal projects in northern Greece, Athens and on the islands of Lesvos and Samos. Through its close working

relationship with different organisations on the ground Three Peas are able to respond quickly to the ever-changing crisis and to provide relief and benefit for refugees both in and around the refugee camps and in the community.

Public Benefit

The trustees, in making their decisions, have considered the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit and are committed to ensuring that their support reaches refugee communities and vulnerable families most at risk and in need. To this end Three Peas have chosen to support:

3. ACHIEVEMENTS

The number of refugees arriving in Greece continues to be high, despite receiving little attention from the international press. As it has been the case for the past few years, those arriving on Greek shores are mostly confined to what are now ‘closed and controlled’ camps where basic needs and medical, legal services are threadbare. Refugees and asylum seekers declining to be housed in those camps find themselves with no support.

Since the beginning of conflicts at the borders of Europe, and more recently in the Middle East, funds channelled towards support to non-governmental organisations active in Greece are at an all-time low and we continue to see many of these NGOs having to close their operations. For those still running, the on-going inflation in combination with a decrease in donations has greatly reduced their services and reach. This lack of funds naturally also continues to significantly impact our partners, who are constantly having to adapt to do more with less.

While the increasing difficulty to raise funds for our cause has meant that we have not been able to expand our support, we are thankful that with the help of some committed supporters we have been able to maintain our support to all our long-established partners, either directly or by our sister charity in Germany, Three Peas eV., helping them stabilise their level of support and services to the communities in need.

As always, we followed the actions and impact on the ground of all partners we support via online meetings, direct communication by electronic means and detailed reporting, as well as in-person visits.

Details following summarizes our support of local organizations:

GREECE Mainland and Islands

Athens

The non-registered and paperless refugee population in Athens is still high, with very little or no access to state help, leading many vulnerable individuals to homelessness, police pickups, trafficking and prostitution.

We were able to slightly increase our support of STEPS, an organisation providing very essential work to the refugee and homeless communities in Athens, which are ever increasing. While many other NGOs had to close down or reduce their operations, STEPS is one of the few organisations remaining that through the relentless work of its volunteers and a great local network are able to still run a food distribution centre offering both cooked meals and food items for those with means to prepare their own meals. By cooperating with other NGOs STEPS was able to further increase their reach and a new Free Market and Open Kitchen Project is now up and running, allowing them to serve even more people in need. In addition, STEPS continues to provide legal and medical help on street outreach missions.

We were also able to maintain our monthly payments to Attika Human Support Warehouse. Unfortunately, the lack of overall funding has meant that Attika Warehouse had to downsize and manage the reception and shipping of goods with a reduced number of helpers. Nevertheless, Attika Warehouse continues to be one of the last goods reception and distribution centres for NGOs available and it is essential to provide goods to many other local support groups throughout the country.

We continue to support Yoga Sport for Refugee Athens, who consistently offer high quality sport courses and participate in local sport activities (races, tournaments etc), thus encouraging a healthy physical and mental lifestyle. They also train volunteers from the international and refugee communities to take on some responsibility in the running of the classes or of the centre.

Samos

We maintained our support to Just Action, now one of the very few remaining organisations serving the refugee and most vulnerable populations on Samos. Just Action also strives to create positive links and common goals between the refugee and local communities, while creatively and innovatively limiting the environmental impact of their work. We help them maintain the quality of the food packs they distribute and fund bus tickets, allowing camp inhabitants to travel from the faraway camp to the town centre where they can find the Just Action free shop as well as legal help and healthcare services provided by other organisations. This year we also supported Just Action with additional funding towards shipping of goods from the mainland warehouse.

Lesbos

On Lesbos we continue our support of Attika Human Support’s housing programme. After 8 years of operation the facilities required substantial maintenance and repair, which we agreed to fund to a large extent.

OTHER PROJECTS /SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE

The updated Three Peas website is up and running, and now better reflects our scope of activities and facilitates communication with our supporters. Continuous support both internal and external is required for regular maintenance and improvement.

We also continue to be present on Instagram and Facebook. We discontinued our presence on X (Twitter), and moved to Bluesky and Threads instead. We also inform our subscribers through our regular newsletter.

4. FUNDRAISING

1st line Auction

Three Peas obtained handwritten notes of writers and artists with the first line of one of their famous works. The notes, together with a certificate of authenticity, were auctioned online in November/December 2024, raising a total of more than GBP 24,000. The auction was features in articles in The Times, Writing Magazine and Axel Scheffler was invited to discuss the auction on the Radio Times podcast and ITV London.

Hymn for Three Peas

Our patron, Roxanna Panufnik, composed a Hymn for Three Peas, which was performed by choirs throughout the world, who paid a small contribution to acquire the partiture. Many of the choirs combined their performance with a fundraiser in support of Three Peas. The fundraiser raised a total of almost GBP 8000.

Christmas Cards Renard Press

A new Christmas card-book in aid of Three Peas was published again this year, “Dancing Dan´s Christmas” by Damon Runyon.

Throughout the year we also received support from several publishers through auctioning of our patron’s artwork.

DONATIONS

Our supporters have been and continue to be our lifeline. We are profoundly grateful to all private supporters who have donated to us, whether through one-off or regular contributions, and to those who have organized private fundraisers to our benefit.

Scholastic UK has continued to champion Three Peas through royalties generated from the sale of their book, KIND (written by Alison Green and illustrated by 38 illustrators), and the accompanying KIND Activity Book .

In another significant collaboration with Scholastic, a new book, Welcome , was successfully released in June 2025. Welcome is written by Alison Green and illustrated by our long-time supporter and patron Axel Scheffler. The launch was celebrated with parties in several

locations, numerous book signing events, a special conversation evening, and an exhibition followed by an auction of several original artworks from the book.

5. FUTURE PLANS

With both financial and goods donations currently being at an all-time low, Three Peas will continue our focus on Greece.

Through these challenging times, we have solidified relationships with incredible partners in Greece. Thanks to their skill, determination, and careful resource management, all of them continue to operate. Our plan is to maintain our support for them and the extraordinary work they perform with such humanity and efficiency, while also remaining available for emergency assistance.

We have several exciting events and projects in the pipeline that will help raise crucial additional funds:

New book

A new book, again in collaboration with Scholastic and our patron Axel Scheffler, is scheduled for launch in early 2026.

Further fundraisers

Building on the success of her fundraiser Hymn for Three Peas, Roxanna Panufnik will create a new hymn adaption for a Christmas Fundraiser in 2026.

In addition to raising much-needed funds, we anticipate these projects will further develop and broaden our connection with our communities, both here in the UK and internationally.

6. THANK YOU

Our deepest gratitude goes to our donors and to everyone who follows our work and helps spread the word.

Many dedicated volunteers contribute to Three Peas’ activities in countless ways—assisting at events with catering, facilitation, organization, and hosting, and through their personal fundraising efforts. We especially wish to thank our team of Three Peas ‘Angels’ for their tireless and unwavering support.

We extend our thanks to our patron composer Roxanna Panufnik, whose humanity aligns so closely with ours, and to our patron illustrator Axel Scheffler for generously offering their time, energy, and connections in support of our mission, and for their steadfast commitment over the years.

Our thanks also go to all our funders; to those who provided donations in kind; and to Will Dady at Renard Press for the publication of book cards.

We are immensely grateful to all the authors and artists who so generously contributed to The First Line auction and thus made it possible. We would also like to thank all at Magic Light Production and Faber & Bishopp for their support, along with all the contributors’

personal assistants, publishers and agents, Hannah MacInnes and Charlie Parker, as well as Patrick at Books on the Rise for hosting the launch of Welcome and an evening of talk on our work.

A special expression of thanks goes to the amazing team at Scholastic for their unwavering support, for their donations of royalties from the sales of KIND ; to its author Alison Green, and to the incredible group of KIND illustrators who all donated their work, and without whom our scope of activities and impact would be much diminished. We are immensely grateful to Scholastic, Alison Green, and Axel Scheffler for agreeing to expand their support by collaborating on the release of Welcome and to Sophie Cashell for the upcoming book in 2026. The income generated from the sales of these books will provide additional, sustained funding to support those in need for many years to come. It is thanks to them that we can continue to support the amazing work of our partner-organizations on the ground.

To our incredibly kind and caring community, thank you for your trust!

7. FINANCIAL REVIEW

The financial period covered by this report are the 12 months ending 30[th ] September 2025.

At the balance sheet date, the Charity had free reserves amounting to £71,196 being the excess of income over expenditure generated on unrestricted funds since commencement. During the year the Charity provided funds of £80,754 to support refugees in Greece.

As noted above the Charity relies on voluntary support and donations in kind. An accurate estimate of the monetary value for this could not be determined and therefore no account of these is recorded in the financial statements.

The Charity does not have a reserves policy at present, but it seeks to ensure that it continues to raise sufficient income to allow it to continue to provide support as and when it is required.

8. DECLARATIONS

The trustees declare that they have taken advantage of the small companies’ exemption in preparing the report above.

Three Peas

Financial Statements for the year ended 30[th] September 2025

Notes

1. Background

Three Peas is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered in England and Wales under registration number 1172777 and its principal office is 54 Mount Ararat Road, Richmond, TW10 6PJ.

2. Principal Accounting Policies

(a) Basis of accounting

The financial statements are prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1[st] January 2015), (Charities SORP FRS 102) and the Charities Act 2011.

Three Peas meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost.

(b) Going concern

The ability of the charity to undertake its activities is largely dependent upon the receipt of donations and revenue from trading activities. Those revenues cannot be guaranteed and are heavily dependent upon the efforts and contributions of the trustees.

The trustees manage the activities of the charity based upon its level of reserves and anticipated guaranteed future income. Because of this the trustees consider that the continuing viability of the trust is assured and that it is therefore appropriate to prepare accounts on the going concern basis.

(c) Incoming resources

Incoming resources are accounted for on a receivable basis and recognised in the period in which the charity is entitled to the funds, any performance conditions attached to an award have been met, it is probable that income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably

Expenses are accounted for on an accruals basis.

Income received for a restricted purpose less related expenditure is recorded as a restricted fund. All other income is recorded as unrestricted.

(f) Foreign currencies

Monetary assets and liabilities are translated into pounds sterling at the exchange rate prevailing at the balance sheet date. Transactions in foreign currencies are translated at the rate prevailing at the date of the transaction. Gains or losses arising on the retranslation of balance sheet items are accounted for in the Statement of Financial Activities.
