The Aim of 1st Whitton Scout Group is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. We provide exciting and adventurous activities alongside a progressive training and award scheme. All are encouraged to participate to the best of their ability. Leadership and mentoring are provided by our dedicated team of Volunteers.

On behalf of all the youngsters, we are very grateful to the above wonderful volunteers and parents who freely give their help. They all keep the group running.

Group Lead report:

As Group lead, my primary role continues to be offering support to the Leadership teams ensuring that they have opportunities for training and giving them the right facilities to carry out their roles. It is also my responsibility, with the help of the trustees, leaders and supporters, to ensure that our youngsters are kept safe while they are in our care.

This past year has seen steady growth and positive developments within our Scout group. We are delighted to welcome Mark onto the Cub leadership team and Adam onto the Beaver leadership team. We are also pleased that Alan has joined our group, bringing extensive scouting experience from within the District.

Our Scout section has also experienced growth, which is encouraging, while we have noticed a decrease in Cubs due to quite a few members moving up. However, it is gratifying to see the Beavers finally increasing in numbers. Meanwhile, Magellan Explorer membership has remained steady and we are expecting a significant influx of new members in September.

Throughout the year, our leaders have worked tirelessly to provide valuable experiences for our young members. I would like to extend a special thank you to Mikey, who has remained actively involved in all our sections, contributing his time and expertise. We appreciate the ongoing commitment of all our leaders, who continue to make a difference in the lives of our young people.

Over the past year, we have engaged in several enjoyable and educational events that have enriched our members' scouting experiences. Camps are always a highlight, where the youngsters enjoy participating in the various activities. Other notable events were the Water Rocket Challenge and Day Prowl, which both contributed to building a sense of community and teamwork among our young people. The Remembrance Parade provided a meaningful opportunity to engage with the broader community, while events like the Monopoly Run and the Air Rifle Shooting Competition encouraged friendly competition and skill development.

Our regular meetings have also played a vital role in maintaining engagement and enthusiasm among our young people. In particular, sessions focused on various badges highlight our leaders’ commitment to providing a diverse programme of activities.

As we look to the next year, we thank all the children for their contributions and enthusiasm, which motivates our volunteer leaders in their efforts to provide a diverse and entertaining programme.

Assets and Premises.

Except for the annual inspections and services, there have not been any major issues within the main building. We are in the process of building a pioneering pole shelter and waterproofing the roof of the equipment store.

We had a very productive Spring Clean-up with the help of the children and parents of the Group. The day was a great help in keeping the undergrowth and weeds under control. We hope to do something similar in the Autumn.

As ever, we are grateful for the volunteer days provided by Heathrow Technical Services and the Terminal 5 engineering section. Their support has been invaluable in assisting us with various projects, enhancing our facilities, and allowing us to provide better experiences for our young people.

Finances

Funding.

Rugby parking - As ever, thank you to George and the other helpers for looking after this important fund-raising activity.

Gift Aid continues to be a worthwhile exercise, adding a minimum of £1000 annually to the Group’s funds.

The Group receives income from Frejo After School Club, Kerswell Kids Day Nursery and Twickenham District Model Railway Club. This income is used for utility payments, insurance and general upkeep of the facilities.

Termly Subscriptions from parents are split between National Scouting headquarters, Greater London Southwest Scout County and Richmond upon Thames Scout District, through capitation at the beginning of the year. The surplus is used directly by the Group for badges, scarves and some craft materials.

Most of the 1[st] Whitton camps and activities are subsidised through fund raising and donations.

Future :

Looking ahead, we are excited about the forthcoming Summer Camp at the beginning of August, which will incorporate a sleepover for the Beavers. This camp is an excellent opportunity for all sections to come together and enjoy a variety of fun Birthday themed activities.

1[st] Whitton will celebrate its Centenary in 2027. That’s 18 months away and I hope we can set up a sub team of parents to start bringing together our archive and planning a year of activities that the youngsters will remember. Explorer report

Over the past year, our Explorer group has engaged in a range of activities, highlighting both our dedication to developing skills and creating new skills. Those acquired during meetings such as air rifle practice and whittling sessions with Mikey have further enriched our programme, ensuring that every participant has had the chance to learn and have fun. A particularly enjoyable session involved paper folding, which not only provided a creative outlet but also encouraged focus and dexterity among the Explorers.

We would also like to commend our youngsters for their commitment to their exam revision. Even during this busy time, they have continued to attend meetings whenever possible, showcasing their dedication to both their academic responsibilities and their Scouting activities. Their eating memorable experiences. From preparing for a Day Prowl, where our members honed their orienteering and activity skills, to enjoying social gatherings like the Escape Room and Pizza event, there has been no shortage of opportunities for personal and group growth. The ability to balance these commitments is impressive and deserves recognition.

Throughout the year, several events have offered our Explorers unique experiences. The Water Rocket Challenge allowed participants to explore the principles of physics in a fun and interactive way. The Family Afternoon and AGM brought families together, fostering a sense of community. A highlight was Borough Camp, which not only involved camping but also included teamwork activities that encouraged collaboration among our youth. Summer Camp further built on these experiences, providing opportunities for personal development and relaxation in a beautiful setting.

Participants displayed great enthusiasm during events like the Remembrance Parade and St George's Day Parade, which offered a chance to pay respect and celebrate our Scouting traditions. The annual Christmas Pantomime was another enjoyable occasion, allowing members to showcase their creativity while providing entertainment for families and friends. Other

As we look ahead, we anticipate some exciting changes come September. Alan and Grant will take on Lead position for Explorers, which signals a new chapter for our group. This change is vital for the development of the section, as it involves younger leaders becoming more engaged in planning and delivery. I will continue to support the section in this transition, and we look forward to fresh ideas and initiatives from our new leadership.

I would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to some key leaders. Mikey, Alan, Alex, and Josh have been invaluable in their roles, bringing their skills and commitment to our unit. Their efforts in guiding our Explorers have made a significant difference, and we sincerely appreciate everything they have done.

As we conclude this report, I would like to thank all the young people for their enthusiasm and participation, which add so much to our activities, making it enjoyable for everyone involved. I would also like to extend our thanks to the parents for their continued support and to all the volunteers who help out behind the scenes. The charity's trustees consider that an audit Is not required for this year under section 14412) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act: to follow the procedure513id down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission {under section 145{5llb) of the 2011 Act; and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of the independent examinerfs report My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and comparison of the accounts presented with those records.
