Section D Achievements and performance

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

As the resumption of activities after Covid became possible, the Trustees decided to focus on one major project with an existing partner, St Matthias School. The Charity funded a multi-media musical, “Evenings at Home” inspired by the life of local 18[th] Century writer and educationalist Anna Barbault.

The project was a whole school project and involved timetabling a weekly day of creative activities, run by local professionals. The children co-created songs based on the poems and stories of Anna Barbault. Although a performance was the end point, the experience of creating it was where much of the learning happened. A primary objective was for the children to grow in confidence, both in performance and in learning new skills, for example integrating learning of British Sign language as an integral part of the performance. Talents such as dance, origami and DJing were pre-recorded to be shared in the show. Props and additional art pieces for the performance were created by students.

As well as the performance being very well received by parents and carers who packed the St Matthias Church for the performance, teachers reported positive effects on pupils’ confidence, behaviour, ability to concentrate, and engagement with other parts of the curriculum. An added bonus was the cooperation and interaction between different age groups at the school, and the rebuilding the cohesion of the school and engagement of parents which had inevitably been affected by Covid restrictions.
