Milford on Sea Charitable Trust (MoSCT) Annual Report 2024 The MoSCT was established in January 2017 to serve as an umbrella charity for
voluntary community organisations in Milford on Sea, Keyhaven and Everton. Its aims are:
1. To support existing groups
2. To support new projects which benefit people living in the parish of Milford on Sea, and the surrounding area.
The charity provides a bank account, support with banking, insurance, and where appropriate, DBS checks for volunteers; as well as general advice and administrative support. It collaborates with other groups and in community events organised by the MoS Community Panel (a local networking group, now convened by The Bridge, Milford’s Community hub).
The charity has five projects within its portfolio. Four of these projects are active and very successful. These are:
-
Activities and support for people who are affected by dementia and other conditions. The Coordinator, who was appointed in May 2022, has become an asset for the Community. She has a large group of enthusiastic and trusted volunteers. She runs a fortnightly memory afternoon and a fortnightly Music session. Individuals and their families are signposted to the support that is available, and how to access services. This service is now well established and benefits many individuals and their families. We estimate that 90 people have benefited from this service in the past year.
-
The Milford Volunteer Drivers (formerly the Community Care Group) joined the Trust in 2022. The service transports local residents, who have no other means of transport available, to medical appointments. In summer 2023 the Charity took over the running of this project directly. A robust system is now in place, so the service runs efficiently. The current volunteers run the service themselves with advice and support from the Trust. The number of trips have increased from approximately 700 in 2023 to 850 in 2024, benefiting 210 older individuals, many of whom have a disability.
-
Step Up Safe Space joined the Charity at the start of 2024. They provide a range of services to support people experiencing hardship; work with other agencies and encourage recycling. This includes working with Food Banks (272 referrals), providing school uniform (20), school shoe vouchers(18) prom dresses (15) and other children and young people’s clothing. They have provided 85 Xmas presents and 150 Easter Eggs this year. They provide other essentials such as used bedding in good condition . The group is run independently by their volunteers. It benefits mainly younger people and children.
-
Magical Milford at Christmas, for which the Charity provides banking and administrative support, continues to be successful and benefits adults and children of all ages from Milford and the surrounding area, as well as local businesses.
-
The minibus project has been dormant since the pandemic. The funding that has been raised is now insufficient to purchase a vehicle. More significantly, the group of volunteers who were involved are no longer in place. The charity should seek to address this situation in the year ahead.
The Charity is registered for gift aid. When an individual makes a donation it can be to the project they wish to support, or to the charity itself. Any general funds which are donated will be allocated to new or existing projects.
