Registered Charity Number: 1172715

Our Services

May 2022 – April 2023

Throughout this period, we provided themed activity sessions designed to be dementia friendly and be enjoyed by individuals living with dementia and their carers. We have also seen an increase of individuals who used to attend the sessions as a carer continue to attend after their loved one has passed. As a charity, we welcome those who find themselves in this position and would like to continue to attend to socialise with friends they have made. All our activity sessions are led by our dedicated trained volunteers. The monthly sessions continue to be person centred, with activities designed to focus on the interests of those who attend. We value the opinions of all those who use are services and love to hear what they enjoy or listen to any suggestions of new themes or activities for future sessions.

Activity sessions for the year 2022 - 2023 have included music-based games and picture quizzes, boccia and new age kurling, visits from local primary school children for world book day and a Christmas performance, craft activities and performances from a vintage vocalist.

We also provided light refreshments at each session, which include fruit, cake and drinks.

Our sessions are free and are attended by individuals living with dementia, their family, carers and friends.

Overall, Dementia Yorkshire had a very successful year.

Awareness and understanding in the Community

Dementia Yorkshire continues to work to improve awareness and understanding of Dementia within the local community. In July 2022 we took part in a local festival run by the local community group. We had our own volunteer led fundraising stall to raise funds and awareness and also supported a group of individuals and their carers who attend our monthly activity sessions to perform on stage.

Participating in this event brought awareness of the charity to a large local audience and as a result of this some of those who hadn’t been aware of Dementia Yorkshire now attend and benefit from the monthly activity sessions.

Dementia Yorkshire has continued to work closely with a local primary school on an intergenerational project, meeting several times in the year. In December 2022, a group of pupils came to the groups Christmas Party to perform a selection of Christmas songs and participate in a Christmas Card exchange. In March 2023 another group of pupils joined our activity session for World Book Day, sharing their favourite books and discussing their favourite characters. The project has been welcomed and enjoyed by both age groups and we hope to continue this in coming years.
