Also to provide awareness and understanding for the**<br>**general public of the condition as a whole.**|

||**Due to the covid pandemic, Dementia Yorkshire had to adapt the**<br>**services it provided in line with the Governments national**<br>**restrictions. In person activities and gathering in social settings was**<br>**forbidden, so regular welfare calls and socially distanced visits**<br>**were put in place.**<br>**We helped to promote and protect the mental and physical health of**<br>**those we support with regular drop offs of person centred activities,**<br>**including; adult colouring activities, puzzle book, bulbs to plant and**<br>**a sunflower competition to encourage individuals to go out into**<br>**their gardens. As part of the welfare visits we also handed out soap,**<br>**bunches of flowers, lavender bags and Easter eggs all donated from**<br>**businesses and individuals in the local community.**<br>**The welfare calls provided support to the family and carers of the**<br>**individuals living with dementia. The feedback received was that**<br>**these calls were a lifeline at a time when they were unable to leave**<br>**their homes or have visits from family and friends. Dementia**<br>**Yorkshire’s volunteers were also able to check if any essential**<br>**shopping items or prescriptions were required and report back to**<br>**the volunteer organising collection.**<br>**Providing awareness to the general public about the condition as a**<br>**whole was a challenge due to the restrictions in place. We were**<br>**however able to continue to promote the work the charity does on**<br>**the Dementia Yorkshire Facebook page and through winning**<br>**several awards in this period we were mentioned in various**<br>**communication outlets, such as the local newspaper, ward leaflet**<br>**and on social media.**<br>**Trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity**<br>**Commission on public benefit.**|

**Summary of the main Due to the coronavirus pandemic all activity sessions remained achievements of the charity cancelled until further notice in line with the governments guidance. during the year We continued supporting all those who usually attend the activity sessions as well as those who were signposted to us for additional support during lockdown. Support provided included regular welfare calls provided by our team of volunteers and doorstep drop offs of essential items, prescriptions and activities as part of welfare visits. Dementia Yorkshire were successful in applying for a grant from our local council to provide Christmas Hampers to replace the charities Christmas Party. Each hamper was personalised for each individual and included items such as; A jigsaw, puzzle book, bulbs to plant, toiletries, adult colouring book, pack of cards, Christmas cracker, as well as a handmade card from a pupil from the local primary school. We have continued to have a great relationship with the local primary school, with pupils creating cards and pictures for those we support, as well as poems to lift peoples spirits. Dementia Yorkshire also provided Easter bags full of treats as part of our welfare visits. All the contents were donated to the charity and included; an Easter egg, mini eggs, crème egg and knitted cover, jam preserves, daffodils and mini chicks. Training of volunteers is vital to providing those who use are services the best experience. We therefore enrolled four of our volunteers onto online CPD courses run by York College. The modules completed included; Induction essentials, Dementia awareness, safeguarding of adults and children, food safety awareness and introduction to first aid. One of our Trustees who is also our first aider and volunteers at the activity sessions also attended a full one day first aid at work course, provided by the British Red Cross. This will ensure we have a qualified first aider at our sessions for the next 3 years. Dementia Yorkshire has received recognition for the work it does in providing support to individuals living with dementia and their carers. One of our Trustees who also voluntarily runs the monthly activity sessions was nominated in York’s Community Pride Awards 2020 for the Person of the Year Award and also for the Health Service Hero Award, winning the latter. We were also acknowledged by the local ward councillors for work carried out during the pandemic supporting individuals in the area. The charity received a certificate and also publicity in the local ward leaflet. Overall, Dementia Yorkshire had another successful year continuing to provide our services and adapting to the change of circumstances.**
