Hunsonby Community Centre (Registered charity 1172712)
The trustees are pleased to present their report for 2022
1. Practical completion took place in March 2021. The retention to the main contractor, held for 12 months, was paid in March 2022.
2. Routine maintenance and improvements have been made including the provision of WiFi. Curtains have been installed which have made a big improvement (a grant was received for £4489 towards the total cost of £6359). Additional crockery has been purchased so we can cater for large events.
3. Income from bookings in 2022 was £2687. We have encouraged local use by offering discounted initial hire charges. The Centre has been used regularly for parties and family events. It has also hosted Yoga classes, painting classes, coffee/lunch mornings and dine-in/takeaway food.
4. Running costs are mainly electricity to run the heat pump (offset by the PV panels). We estimate the annual running costs to be £5500. We have received grants from Hunsonby Parish Council and the Hutchinson Trust towards our running costs for which we are very grateful.
5. At the year-end we had a bank balance of £6983. We have agreed to try and operate with reserves to cover 12 months operating costs.
6. We continue to update our website and Facebook page and distribute the occasional Newsletter. We now have an internal notice board. The ‘Hunsonby and Winskill 2020’ book continues to sell in small quantities.
7. The Walled Garden was prepared for the Platinum Jubilee in June. It has been reseeded, weeded, and a picnic table and bench installed. We hope it will be well used in 2023. This was funded by the Parish Council and a resident’s gift.
8. We plan to make the beck side more accessible and attractive for wildlife. We held ‘bash the balsam’ events and trees were cut back (funded by the Parish Council).
9. We are working closely with the Swimming Pool and look forward to another successful year.
10. Looking forward we are planning a Plant Sale with refreshments and an opportunity to sign up for the Swimming Pool on May 13[th] and a briefing session on the use of the Defibrilator on 15[th] June at 6.30pm.
11. We are grateful to all our funders, to the local community, to our trustees and helpers, and for the continuing support of Hunsonby Parish Council and the Joseph Hutchinson Educational Charity Trust.
12. We hope that one or two people will consider joining the committee which runs the Centre. We are particularly keen for someone to volunteer as secretary (arranging meetings and recording actions) and someone to take responsibility for updating the website and Facebook.
