its relationships with health services such
as Trafford Social Prescribers and Greater
Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) Living
Well Service. These partnerships,
particularly through the Living Well Service,
have become integral to our social
prescribing offer. This initiative allows
healthcare professionals to refer individuals
to Seed Studios and our dedicated
Community Connector for tailored, 1-to-1
music workshops. These workshops,
designed to boost participants’ confidence
and overall wellbeing, promote positive
mental health through creative expression.
We have been able pffer 6 hours of these
1-to-1 sessions every week, significantly
contributing to the health and emotional
stability of those referred in a unique and
impactful way.
Volunteer-Led sessions:
Seed Studios continues to be powered by
the dedication of its volunteers, who in
2023 contributed over 1,000 hours of
activity through workshops. These sessions
included a variety of music groups such as
guitar groups jamming group, free
improvisation and ukulele groups. These
group activities provide participants with a
pathway into more communal forms of
engagement, where they can further
enhance their skills in a supportive and
inclusive environment. Over 200 people
attended our volunteer-led Community
Music WellbeingWorkshops everymonth,| with attendees reporting improved confidence, mental health, emotional wellbeing, skills, and friendships. These programs are open to all residents of Trafford, fostering a sense of community through shared musical experiences, while emphasizing wellbeing and inclusivity. Our sessions occur five days a week, ensuring continuous access to workshops and activities. This operational model provides a consistent, supportive environment for participants, reinforcing our role as a key community resource in Trafford for both creative and health-oriented programs. Public Performances and Celebrations: In 2023, Seed Studios expanded its publicfacing events, including regular open nights where participants could gather in a relaxed, café-like setting to perform music and celebrate together. These performances were an opportunity for individuals and groups to showcase their work, building self-esteem and promoting social connection. We also hosted a grand celebration concert at the prestigious Manchester venue, Band on the Wall. 50 performers joined at Band on the Wall for Celebrate Seed Studios 2023. “People said “it showed that everybody has some musical ability and (it was) great that everyone joined in, even the audience” and that they were “proud of others breaking barriers”. For many participants, this performances were a significant personal milestone, providing a sense of achievement and pride which is key to encouraging positive wellbeing. String of Hearts collaboration: Throughout 2023, Seed Studios continued its partnership with String of Hearts CIC to offer older adults at risk of social isolation free, monthly music appreciation workshops. String of Hearts offers musicbased wellbeing support to its beneficiaries, with the crucial element of pastoral, financial and logistical support for older adults. Together, we engaged around 80 people through monthly collaborative sessions. Our partnership, beginning in 2021, continues to harness both their incredible outreach, engagement and musical strengths, and our own ability to foster community connection and encourage musical and personal development within our centres day-to-day. Conclusion: 2023 was a year of significant growth and impact for Seed Studios, as we deepened our partnerships with health services, expanded volunteer-led activities, and crafted opportunities for community celebration through music. These achievements highlight our continued dedication to using creative expression as a tool for enhancing wellbeing, reducing isolation, and fostering a sense of community among local Trafford and Manchester residents.
