Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 The purpose of Seed Studios CIO is to
promote social inclusion for the public
benefit by preventing people from
becoming socially excluded, relieving the
needs of those people who are socially
excluded and assisting them to integrate
into society by providing a community
music and arts service.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
We have sought to prevent social exclusion
as a result of ill health (physical and
mental) through two main activities.
• Provision of a volunteer-led community
music studio including purchase of
instruments and equipment.
• Provision of one-to-one music sessions
for vulnerable adults by sessional workers

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Through the medium of music, we
empowered (at our peak) around 80 people
each month at our online and in-person
community music wellbeing workshops and
our one-to-one sessions with social
prescribing referrals. We built the
confidence, mental health resilience and
skills of local people in Trafford, giving
them hope in a difficult period for the
country.
Despite the Covid-19 lockdowns and
changing government regulations regarding
social distancing, we designed and fulfilled
Covid-19 friendly online open-mic events
and, when legally allowed, encouraged
Covid-19 regulation-safe community music
wellbeing workshops. This helped people
to develop connections, contributing to a
stronger community and reducing social
isolation in a period which was isolating for
many.
With our mandate to provide support for
local adults in Trafford, we continued
supporting individuals referred to us in
different ways including self-referral and
GP signposting as a result of a range of
health difficulties particularly mental health
issues and isolation. We also built the
charity’s reputation as a social prescribing
best practice organisation, taking part in
the new Thriving Communities Learning
Together programme of late 2020/early
2021.
