Induction of trustees involves reference to Charity Commission papers and the LTPT Trust Deed, discussion with Chairman, then recommendation to Board, and favourable Board decision on appointment followed by continual briefing. 

The Board is responsible for governance. The Chairman is the Executive; on Finance he works with the Treasurer; on Design and Publicity he works with Jeff Wallis; on overview and liaison in Cape Town he works with the LTPT Representative in Cape Town, Nadia Petersen 

Close relationship with the Partnerships, Community and Charities project of Cheltenham College, and also with the Parish Church Council of St Mary and St Paul, Hemel Hempstead. Relationship with Clueit Foundation and with pro bono partner in Cape Town, Chris Beech concerning  the SHOP building project. 

Minimal financial risk because of tight financial control 



## **Section C                    Objectives and activities** 

To advance education for the benefit of the public of the Township of Langa, Cape Town, South Africa by supporting the Nomonde Educare **Summary of the objects of the** project based at Nomonde Pre-School, and any other pre-school **charity set out in its** initiatives in the Township through assistance such as materials, **governing document** equipment and furnishings and direct financial assistance, the provision of professional advice and such assistance as is deemed necessary. 

## **Main activities** 

1. Fund raising to support programme for the benefit of pre-school children in Langa Township and the empowerment of women there, with a view to promoting both knowledge, health and sustainability. 

2. Provision of food and clothing to Nomonde Pre-School, and food to 5 other pre-schools, ‘ you can’t teach a hungry child’! 

3. Financial and managerial control.

## **Policy on Grantmaking**

In preparation of the annual budget, decisions are made concerning what shall be spent in and for Langa Township in the coming financial year. Also, within the operating year, a grant may be needed to be provide for an emergency, two recent examples being COVID, and a ravaging fire. Additionally, there have been several projects with time frames longer than one year, the current one being the SHOP Project (Succour-Hope – Optimism–Progress Project) – a new building for the Langa Early Child Development Forum, target completion date Spring/ Summer 2025. NB this project was cancelled in December 2024 because of bad delivery time delays in Cape Town and unacceptable escalating costs, both posing LTPT with serious financial risk. 

**Policy Programme related to investment** There is no investment in the UK based operation all facilities and utilities being provided by volunteers at their own expense. 

There is an on-going programme of investment in equipment and preschool buildings in Langa, the programme conditioned by the size of funding available from the UK through LTPT. 

## **Contribution by Volunteers** 

LTPT’s UK Operation has been run wholly by the Chairman, supported significantly on the Financial/treasury side and the publicity and design side as featured in Section B, all under the governance of, and with the advice of, the Board of Trustees. Additionally, there has been continuing contact with Chris Beech (Cape Town) and Gary Clueit (Isle of Man) concerning the SHOP project who are volunteers for  the SHOP project.

**Summary of the main** To have raised the £50,000, and to have found a co-sponsor committed **achievements of the charity** to provide £26,000 to fund a new building, its furniture and equipment to **during the year** be a resource centre for the Langa Early Child Development Forum, which aims to give significant support for the future development of the mission of this Forum. See NB Section concerning SHOP project cancellation. 

To have continued to support financially and managerially the work of the Nomonde Educare and its office, and to give major support to the Nomonde Pre-School, and to give food support for 5 other pre-schools in Langa’s Ward 52, and to have provided a grant of £3,000 last Christmas to purchase food vouchers for all the pre-schools and creches which are members of the Langa Early Child Development Forum. To have maintained constructive links with the Clueit Foundation, registered in California with its base in the Isle of Man. To have remained solvent, and to have established a separate infrastructure fund to support investment in favour of pre-schooling in Langa Township.

Induction of trustees involves reference to Charity Commission papers and the LTPT Trust Deed, discussion with Chairman, then recommendation to Board, and favourable Board decision on appointment followed by continual briefing. 

The Board is responsible for governance. The Chairman is the Executive; on Finance he works with the Treasurer; on Design and Publicity he works with Jeff Wallis; on overview and liaison in Cape Town he works with the LTPT Representative in Cape Town, Nadia Petersen 

Close relationship with the Partnerships, Community and Charities project of Cheltenham College, and also with the Parish Church Council of St Mary and St Paul, Hemel Hempstead. Relationship with Clueit Foundation and with pro bono partner in Cape Town, Chris Beech concerning  the SHOP building project. 

Minimal financial risk because of tight financial control 



## **Section C                    Objectives and activities** 

To advance education for the benefit of the public of the Township of Langa, Cape Town, South Africa by supporting the Nomonde Educare **Summary of the objects of the** project based at Nomonde Pre-School, and any other pre-school **charity set out in its** initiatives in the Township through assistance such as materials, **governing document** equipment and furnishings and direct financial assistance, the provision of professional advice and such assistance as is deemed necessary. 

## **Main activities** 

1. Fund raising to support programme for the benefit of pre-school children in Langa Township and the empowerment of women there, with a view to promoting both knowledge, health and sustainability. 

2. Provision of food and clothing to Nomonde Pre-School, and food to 5 other pre-schools, ‘ you can’t teach a hungry child’! 

3. Financial and managerial control.

## **Policy on Grantmaking**

In preparation of the annual budget, decisions are made concerning what shall be spent in and for Langa Township in the coming financial year. Also, within the operating year, a grant may be needed to be provide for an emergency, two recent examples being COVID, and a ravaging fire. Additionally, there have been several projects with time frames longer than one year, the current one being the SHOP Project (Succour-Hope – Optimism–Progress Project) – a new building for the Langa Early Child Development Forum, target completion date Spring/ Summer 2025. NB this project was cancelled in December 2024 because of bad delivery time delays in Cape Town and unacceptable escalating costs, both posing LTPT with serious financial risk. 

**Policy Programme related to investment** There is no investment in the UK based operation all facilities and utilities being provided by volunteers at their own expense. 

There is an on-going programme of investment in equipment and preschool buildings in Langa, the programme conditioned by the size of funding available from the UK through LTPT. 

## **Contribution by Volunteers** 

LTPT’s UK Operation has been run wholly by the Chairman, supported significantly on the Financial/treasury side and the publicity and design side as featured in Section B, all under the governance of, and with the advice of, the Board of Trustees. Additionally, there has been continuing contact with Chris Beech (Cape Town) and Gary Clueit (Isle of Man) concerning the SHOP project who are volunteers for  the SHOP project.

**Summary of the main** To have raised the £50,000, and to have found a co-sponsor committed **achievements of the charity** to provide £26,000 to fund a new building, its furniture and equipment to **during the year** be a resource centre for the Langa Early Child Development Forum, which aims to give significant support for the future development of the mission of this Forum. See NB Section concerning SHOP project cancellation. 

To have continued to support financially and managerially the work of the Nomonde Educare and its office, and to give major support to the Nomonde Pre-School, and to give food support for 5 other pre-schools in Langa’s Ward 52, and to have provided a grant of £3,000 last Christmas to purchase food vouchers for all the pre-schools and creches which are members of the Langa Early Child Development Forum. To have maintained constructive links with the Clueit Foundation, registered in California with its base in the Isle of Man. To have remained solvent, and to have established a separate infrastructure fund to support investment in favour of pre-schooling in Langa Township.
