Where<br>possible, we will also undertake a direct<br>rehome.<br>**Rehabilitation**: to work with the dogs in our<br>care to enable them to recover their trust in<br>people and to become able to adapt to their<br>new lifestyle, this may include training or<br>other specific areas of support.<br>**Veterinary care**: including but not limited to<br>veterinary checks, medication as required,<br>neutering, veterinary advice as required.<br>**Rehoming**: undertake home checks to<br>ensure the suitability of the adopter; travel<br>to the home with the dog to assess the<br>Adopters suitability; undertake a Meet &<br>Greet with all family members and other<br>dogs in the home at a secure field or at a<br>kennel location. The rehoming process may<br>take more than one visit, the dogs are able<br>to be returned to the Charity if the rehoming|





|||doesn’t go according to plan. We also<br>provide details of a local trainer who can<br>help with any issues the adopter may find<br>during the settling in period. If the dog is<br>particularly challenging, we pay for the<br>services of a trainer to help and to give a<br>better chance of the Adopter being able to<br>keep the dog in the home.<br>**Fundraising**: through dog shows, events,<br>auctions, number boards, scratch cards,<br>merchandise sales, raffles, One Lottery in<br>order to raise awareness of the Rescue<br>and to raise funds to cover running costs.<br>Some of our members also donate on a<br>monthly basis by standing order.|

|Statement confirming<br>whether the trustees have<br>had regard to the guidance<br>issued by the Charity<br>Commission on public<br>benefit|Para 1.18|**Public Benefit**: by educating the public<br>about the needs and correct and<br>responsible behaviours towards the<br>Dobermann breed, we assist adopting<br>families as well as the families who<br>surrender their dogs into our care.<br>We also help Dobermann owners who get<br>in contact with us if they are struggling with<br>behaviours by putting them in touch with<br>trainers local to them.<br>We provide a resource to support families<br>who need advice and guidance in relation<br>to elements of training for their Dobermann,<br>there is a dedicated section on our<br>Facebook Rehoming Group covering this.<br>We provide a Dog Assessment to all<br>potential Adopters prior to them having a<br>Meet & Greet with the dog, on the<br>Assessment we include the information on<br>the Rehoming Request as well as what we<br>have learned about the dog whilst in our<br>care.<br>Wherever possible, our Trustees will visit<br>families and their dogs in their home to try<br>to help and see if the dog can stay in the<br>current home rather than being<br>surrendered to Rescue. We have had some<br>success in this area which has been a win-<br>win for the family and their dog.<br>We also provide support/information and in<br>certain circumstances we will pay for the<br>first visit of a Trainer to a home even<br>though the dog isn’t a Lincs dog. We have<br>taken the view that it is better for all<br>concerned to keep the dog in the home if<br>the family will commit to working with the<br>Trainer to provide the structure the dog<br>needs and also to work on unwanted<br>behaviours the dog may have learned|





through lack of structure. If a family is in crisis financially we have made the decision to help the family and provide food for their dog to help keep the dog in the home.

|Summary of the main<br>achievements of the charity,<br>identifying the difference the<br>charity’s work has made to<br>the circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and any wider<br>benefits to society as a<br>whole.|Para 1.20|The period of this report has seen the<br>Charity take in and rehome 74 dogs with 1<br>remaining in a foster home.  We have<br>taken the decision to do a Direct Rehome<br>wherever practicable as this reduces<br>kennel time for the dogs. We continue to<br>have a good reputation which is a mixed<br>blessing as it means we receive many<br>rehoming requests, often for dogs which a<br>Rescue Charity would be unable to safely<br>rehome due to the dog having a bite history<br>or severe aggression. There seems to be<br>an increase in our being asked to take<br>younger dogs who are displaying the<br>“Terrible Teens” type of behaviours and the<br>owners are unable to manage this.<br>Additionally, issues faced by families<br>caused by the rising cost of living seems to<br>be contributing to the increased number of<br>rehoming requests received. When the<br>family circumstances change and the dog<br>is left alone, behavioural issues can often|





occur. The Adopter profile has changed over the year with most adopters wanting easy dogs and, in some cases, they will not commit to putting in the effort required to integrate a Rescue dog into the home.  Because of the marked change in the Adopter profile, we have made a considered decision to keep the number of dogs in our care at any one time to four. We do not want any dogs to languish in kennels whilst we wait for a suitable Adopter, Dobies do not do well in kennels and we prefer not to operate in this way if possible.  Exceptions to this are in cases of emergency. We have also provided support for families who were originally aiming to rehome their dogs in the form of advice and/or training with the objective of keeping the dog in their home rather than surrendering their dog into Rescue. We are also offering to cover the cost of food for families who are struggling with the rising cost of living, at least in the short term in order that they are able to find a way to keep their dog in their home. When the dog is ready for rehoming our Rehoming Trustee completes an assessment including all the information provided by the former owner as well as what we know from the dogs’ time with us. This allows us to provide sufficient information to the potential adopter to enable them to understand the training they will need to carry on with/undertake when they take the dog into their home. She provides ongoing support to the adopter until the dog is settled in the home and we also provide and pay for a trainer to help the adopter and the dog to align with each other if necessary.  The adopter also gets access to additional training resources via email and on our Rehoming Group to ensure that they have information to support the dogs Rehoming journey. We have the use of a Registered Kennel facility when our foster homes are not available; we do try to ensure that dogs in need of additional support have the benefit of a foster home rather than a kennel environment. For the older dogs, those that come to us malnourished or have specific medical needs or behavioural requirements, we would always endeavour to find a foster home. 



The dogs in kennels are assessed prior to rehoming and a home check is undertaken. We use a Charity who have home checkers throughout the UK as logistically it isn’t possible for us to homecheck without their support.  A member of the team is allocated to be the contact with each adoption to ensure that the adopter has a point of contact for any eventuality. We also provide training support to families which adopt / foster any of our dogs on request so that they can understand how to help the dog to enjoy a safe and secure forever home. There have been no serious incidents reported during the period of this return.

|Review of the charity’s<br>financial position at the end<br>of the period|Para 1.21|Within this financial year, the Charity has<br>been received 2 legacies which have the<br>potential to significantly change the<br>opportunities going forward.  The money<br>has been allocated across differing<br>accounts to comply with_fsca_guidelines.<br>The value of the legacies to date is<br>£134,773.<br>Total receipts across all other income<br>streams equated to £68,021.28. Adoption<br>Donations have been lower in this financial<br>year as we made the decision to reduce the<br>donation amount due to the impact of the<br>cost of living and also to reduce the number<br>of dogs coming into our care to avoid the<br>necessity of them going into kennels<br>without a home in the planning. As a result,<br>our kennel costs have decreased.<br>Veterinary and specialist training costs<br>have seen an increase.<br>Our small team of seven volunteer<br>fundraisers work tirelessly to raise money<br>for the Charity to help with the running<br>costs. We have not worked with a<br>professional fundraiser, nor have we<br>worked with any commercial participators<br>during the period of this return.  We also<br>have a further eight unpaid volunteers who<br>assist with planning events, undertaking<br>homechecks, transporting dogs and<br>promoting the work of the Charity.<br>All Trustees and Volunteers are unpaid and<br>volunteer their time and expertise freely.<br>Out of pocket expenses, for example fuel<br>when transporting dogs, is paid at the fixed<br>rate of 40p per mile which is lower than the<br>rate designated by HMRC.<br>We are in a strong financial position going<br>into the next reporting period and we have<br>a strong reputational base to carry the<br>Charity forward|
