Project Redsand CIO
Annual Trustees Report for period 01 January 2022 - 31 Dec 2023
Aims & Purpose
The charity aims to undertake the preservation and ultimate restoration of the Redsand Towers Army Sea Fort in the Thames Estuary, United Kingdom. The charity also aims to educate and inform the global public of the history and future of the Fort through the use of (but not limited to) Exhibitions, broadcasts, press, online and printed materials and resources. The charity will also provide access where possible to the Redsand Fort for historians, journalists, engineers, and when feasible, the General Public.
Achievements & Performance
Preservation and Restoration
The Charity has amazingly found on of the sea Forts 1/20 3.7 Inch HAA Guns which we believe from Tongue Sands Naval Fort in 1992 which is to ne on a Loan Lease agreement with Slough Fort Preservation Trust at no cost to themselves. Works on this are moving in earnest. We have also continued projects from the previous year namely preparing materials for the upcoming year. This is to include replacing the upper handrail (Galvanised) to enable works on the outside of the fort to be carried out by ourselves safely as the new steel will not damage the roping system. We have also started insulating and replacing the hardboard wall panelling (some of which was damaged by weather due to some of our unwanted visitors leaving windows and doors open.)
Unfortunately yet again during this period we have had a number of break ins resulting in vandalism whereby the upper ladder has been cut off and removed. This issue still needs to be addressed /replaced.
This has hampered access somewhat.
Public Awareness
During this period the charity has yet again worked on promotion of the project and the structures and we were invited to attend the Military Odyssey Show in Detling amongst many others and our Mobile Museum has taken off very well !this was very well received by the public having spoken to a large amount of people and we even met a veteran who served on the Forts and one of the supply vessel captains from the Pirate Radio era . We have a number of filming projects set aside for the
better weather next year . These filming activities will yet again go towards raising awareness of the Sea Forts existence, history, and future for their global public audiences.
