Annual Report for the year 2020
Activity in 2020 was slow as a result of successive Covid 19 lockdowns.
In March, the Trustees attended a lecture organised by the Dorset Buildings Group on the history of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings.
In April, Valerie Imber retired as a Trustee, and was re-appointed by an email meeting of the two remaining Trustees, John Imber and Peter Brachi. In June and November all three Trustees participated in Zoom meetings of the South West Heritage Trust Network. In July, the Trust donated several sacks of slate chippings to Blandford Town Museum for use in their Victorian Garden exhibit.
In early December, the Trust received a message from the Housing Standards Department of Dorset Council who were considering action about 26 East Street, Blandford, a Grade II listed double-fronted Georgian house on the main thoroughfare into Blandford Town Centre. The building had been empty and deteriorating for many years and had been included in the Trust’s list of “Buildings at Risk” submitted to SAVE Britain’s Heritage for inclusion in their publications. Dorset Council asked for information on its history and internal organisation and although we were able to provide some information regarding its history we had little knowledge about the internal organisation. The Council have subsequently been reticent about whether they managed to obtain access and what action they intended to take. We subsequently included the building in a list of “empty dwellings” requested by the Council, which again has received no response, nor any apparent action.
