The Ark Snowdonia Yr Arch Eryri

## October . 2022

1172528 The Ark Snowdonia / Yr Arch Eryri Annual Report and Accounts 2020-21

Much of what was set out in our report last year can be repeated, in that it was another difficult year in terms of the impact of Covid 19 resticting progress for the charity. The Snowdonia National Park Authority 0ffices were closed throughout the year. From January 2022 matters have much improved and we are finally progressing as a charity, which will be reported in our 2022 Annual Report and Accounts.

We have continued to focus on work related to the 50 acres of land at Glan-Ilunau Duon that was gifted to us and reported on last year. The farmer who had previously worked the land was given a free grazing license for an additional year to continue to keep his sheep on the land until May 2023, in return for maintaining the boundary fences and walls of the property. This arrangement was made on the basis that conservation work would be unable to start until the winter 2022-23 and keeping the farmer on the land maintained the property at nil cost to the charity.

The ecology basellne study completed previously includes a proposal for initial conservation work on the land, which has been postponed and it is now intended that this work will begin in the autumn of 2022, under the supervision of Dr Gritten. Included in this work will be tree planting [1500 broad leaf trees] and the creation of wetland habitat along the east boundary with the Afon Eden and also along the line of the four small streams that bisect the site. Provisionally this work has been programmed for November 2022. We are currently seeking funding forthis work to commence

The establishment of a quadrant ecology study on the land to monitor ecological changes was postponed until 2022 and was carried out in the spring 2022. This information will be available on our website for research purposes.

Initital contact has been made with the Snowdonia National Park officers and the local officers of Natural Resources Wales. Both organisations are supportive but ;ittle progress was made last year however we are working with them now [2022] and will report on this in detail in our 2022 report.

We have received offers of funding for 2022 from the North Wales River Trust and from the family of Ben Goldsmith. This funding will be recieved over the coming year.

## Accounts

The charity has established a bank account, which opened in 2022 and will be reported on in next years report. In 2021 the charity has not received or spent any funds. All the work that has been done has been funded directly and gifted to the charity. Now that the account is established 2022 will see the charity move forward both financially and in terms of being able to commence our work in the Rhinogs.
