During ihe 2024-2025 aCadern￿ year, St Mary's Pr&School ex￿)en￿d
a steady increase in attendanee, beEinning in September and continuing
throughout Ihe year. The slart of the autumn term was particularly busy,
as the setting had alre* registered to offer Flyino SLart placements in
2024.

During the 202¥2025 period. St May's Pr&School underwerrt a joirrt
insW￿n by Estyn arKI Care Ins￿￿￿orate Wales (CIW). was a
demanding and challenging proce&s, which created a signrficant lavel of
pressure for all members ol slaff.
Despite the stress associaled with the inspedion, the staff demonstrated
professionalism, resilierKe and a str(yng commitment to maintaining high
standards of &qre, leaming and weliteing for the children throughout the
process. The experience highlvJMed the dedication of the team and their
conttnued focus on providing a safe, nurturing and inclusNe early years
environment

In April 2025. the setting experiencej a 25% In￿eaSe in rent. This had a
direct impad on operating costs, an(1 as a resulL a decision was made to
increase funding conlributions and siad( payments from parents to
ensure the sustanabilty of the proviryjion.
No grant funding applicatons wero niado during the 2024-2025 period.
Thi% decision was based on the settiiig hawng stthe and gradually
increasing funding. A(*libonaity. storcige space at the Scoul
Headquarters remains limited. and tF,ere is the potential for relocation
during ihe 2028tr2027 peri(Md, which ,nfluenced financial planning
decisions.
Language, Incluslon and Communi
St Mary's Prevschool is predominanlli an English-spethng setting, with
Welsh incorporated naturally into dailii routines and educational delivery.
The setting supports a diverse (￿mMi&nty. with chibjren from Poland,
Portugal arKI African Caibbean ba￿lrOundS.
Approximaiely 75% of children alleThJ ng th& prfrscliool have English as
an additional language. Many parents are employed locally, in¢luding at
Wrexham Maelor Hospital, Berwyn Prson and various residential care
homes for the eldety.
The setting conlinues to actively supFx)rt families in registering for Hying
Start, Earty Education, 30-hour chik1￿￿e funding and nursery
placements. Staff regularly assist parents in completing online foms.

We are ever grateful for Ihe many hours volunteers and trustees have
spent keeping the pr+school solvenl which would usually include 2 or 3
furKI raising evenls per year. We arE' especially thankful to the treasurer
who spends lime raising inVo￿eS anij ensuring that Ihey are paid on lime.
Without the valuable conlribulion of the volunteers, we would not have
been able lo imwove the suslainability of St Mary's.
Financially we ￿ more stable than we have been in the past 10 years.
We have seen an increase in our furding following the increase in the
chiklren vtho atteThl bolh wivately, itr rough Flwng Start and the Earfy
Education.

Our impact is underpinned by a highTri experienced and commbtted staff
team. Excellent staff-to-chikl ratios ￿lsure that children receive hKJh

In add5tion, we supported working fariilies by providing a collection

Our mwn sources of incorne during ine year were parem* fees for
children attending St Mary's Pre-&hool. Flyino Start funding, Earty
Education payments, and 30-hour rt ildcare funding.
The continuation of the 30-hour fre8 childcare scheme has enabled us to
further support families by offering ajdttionat wraparound care. This
provision has helped parents and ca.ets to retum to work or undertake
training and education.
This funding h&% allowed us lo mainlain our stsffing structyre, includiNJ
the employment of a supervisor worl.ing 24 hours per week, two part-tirne
staff members wothng 16 hours per week, and one staff member
working 10 hours per week We also employ an administrator who plays
a vital role in ensuring the pr&schoal operates efficiently and remains
fully compliant wtth registralion and regulatory requirements.
