During the past year the pre-school r umbers steadily Ir￿reased Irom
Septernber.
During the sprlng of 2023 Ihe church hall we used was condernned and
we were asked to move premlses. There was very Ilttle around that we
could afford bul eventualty we wer8 ¢)ffered Wrexham and District scout
hut, still based within the town. Throughout Ihe summer we pad(ed all
the pre-school equipment and moved Into the Scoul Hut in August 2023.
Wllh the move we Incurred a re-reglslrallon wllh th8 CIW. new DBSS'S
for all Ihe staff and many days of pwjerwork.
We started the temi with Just 1 chlld and rent of £175 per week. we
steadily increased the numbers with mosl children being ol foreign
nationallty. Thelr parents either wort(ing at the hospllal. in the prfson or
the carlng professlon.
We declded as a commlttee and Irurtees lo become a Flylng siart Settlng
In Ihe hope that thls would Increase ihe children. All the paperwork was
completed. and we were granted Ftying Slart status from February 2024.
St Mary's offer wrap around care using the 30-hour childcare funding,
where chlldren are collected from Sl Marfs nursery at 11.30 and broughl
to St Mary's Pre-school until 3pm.
We are predomlnantly an Engllsh-speaklng settlng where Welsh Is
incorporaled In our everyday delivery of educallon and chlldcare. We
also have chlldren attendlng who arg Pollsh, Portuguese, Malandain and
African Caribbean. We have continued to support families to register
Ihelr thlldren lor Early Educatlon. 31)-hour fundlng and nursery by
supportlng Ihem to access the fomio onllne as many farnilies, where
English Is thelr second language. this is vltal In a￿uring Iheir child can
access the educalk)n they deserve.

We have four members of staff. and an adminlstralor all have been at St
Marfs for over 3 years working well as a tearn to support the children's
leaming and development.
St Mary's has recelved several grairts through the year. Small Capital
grant of £2228 used for new storag@ cupboards, £200 frorn Flying Start
for Ihe purchase of new hard books. for Ihe younger children, Earty Years
Wales granl of £50010 support the build of a new Webb Page, £1000
from Flylng Start lo help wilh new resources, £2500 from Arts Coundl for
Wales to deliver a project to suppo11 our outdoor area, £1120 RRRS
grant 10 help support the dellvery ol Ihe Early Education. All grant
fundlng has been evaluated and relumed to the funders.
As an Earty Years setting, we plan activities each week arKI use next
sleps to enhance and Improve the ,:hlldren's leamlng. Ensurlng Ihat Ihey
lrnprove thelr seff-confldence and soclal skills. We enjoy trlps to local
communlties Including the library, rnuseum. shops and Ihe park. We also
fund raise throughout the year to Pfovlde a Christmas paty al a local
Ind¢)or play arena.

We are ever meful for the mary h,)urs volunteers and trustees have
spent keeping Ihe pre-xhool solverit which would usually include 2 or 3
lund raising events per year. We ar8 especlally thanldul to the treasurer

Wrthout Ihe valuabl8 contri￿tion of the volunteers, we would not have

St Mary's has increased the children who attend the setting by 95% over
Ihe pasl 12 months. We have mary chlldren whose parents have come
over to the UK to work in the local Wrexham Maelor Hospilal. Most of the
children who attend Sl Mary's Ilve within walking dlslance of Ihe pre-
school. This year we￿8 provided a full acadernic year of high quality.

Our main source of income for this s'ear has been Irom fees paid by the
parenls for their child to attend St Mary's Pr8 School, Early Education
payments and 30-hour funding. We had 1 term of funding through Flying
Start for one child.

support farnilies with additional wrq) around care allowing parentslcarers

Funding has allowed us to continue ernploylng a SUper￿lSOr working 24
hours per week, Iwo part time slaff members working 16 hours and one
member of staff working 12 hours Fier week. We also employ an
administrator who ensures thal the pre-school continues to run effeclively
and within the boundaries of the re,Jistration requirements.
