Trustee’s Report 2023 

In 2023 the American Civil war Round Table (UK) continued to pursue its charitable objectives of enhancing education around the American Civil War and protecting the war’s heritage. 

Six lecture meetings were held during the year, 3 physical meetings in London and 3 via zoom,  with subjects as diverse as British ’Bluejackets’ in the Union Navy and the vital partnership between Generals Lee and Jackson. A very successful weekend conference took place on the theme of the 1864 Overland Campaign. Our thrice yearly magazine Crossfire continued to cover a wide range of Civil War related topics and our regular email newsletter Vedette kept members up to date with news and events. 

We were able to financially support a number of heritage related projects during the year ie 

The Sultana Disaster Museum (US$500) Monuments for UK Veterans of the Civil War (£400) Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Trust for the Piedmont battlefield (US$500) Restoration of the grave of Colonel Arthur Freemantle (£216) 

Financially the Round Table continues to be in very good health. With income of just over £8,000 in 2023 a surplus was produced on day to day activities of £501, with a transfer from reserves of £942 to support our donations to heritage projects. The charity had reserves at the end of the year of £10,798 and a cash balance of £9,753. At the end of 2023 the Round Table had 122 members, up from 118 in 2022.
