The American Civil War Round Table (UK)

Trustee’s Report 2021

In 2021, for the first time in many years, our membership has increased. We had 124 members at the end of the year compared with only 105 at the start. The launch of our new website in 2020 and the facility to attend our meetings via zoom have improved our profile and reach and the possibility of payment by PayPal or credit card makes it easier to renew or join, especially for overseas members.

It was also an excellent year from the point of view of the sales of books and clothing with £1,294 in sales. We benefitted from legacies of books which could be re-sold and our range of new clothing has proved very popular.

Thankfully we were able to hold a conference in 2021, after a 1 year ‘hiatus’ for covid, albeit with a somewhat reduced number of physical attendees.

We were able to support 3 heritage projects in the US in 2021 with donations of $500 each to Gaines Mill battlefield, the Cape Charles Civil War Trail and the Champion Hill battlefield.

Our activities in 2020 produced a surplus overall of £ 1,552. After making our three donations £ 421 was transferred to reserves.

Note 1 The exceptional item relates to the one off cost of designing and building the new ACWRT website in 2020. This cost £1500 which is parti offset by the release of the release of £440 Advertising and Publicity sub fund brought forward. The sub fund was the remainder of a legacy left to the ACWRT in 2012.
