OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES Objectives and aims

The objectives of the CIO are:

(a) to promote community participation in healthy recreation by providing facilities for the playing of association football and other sports capable of improving health ('facilities' in this clause means land building equipment and organising sporting activities);

(b) to provide and assist in providing facilities for sport recreation or other leisure time occupation of such persons who have need for such facilities by reason of their youth age infirmity or disablement poverty or social and economic circumstances or for the public at large in the interests of social welfare with the object of improving their conditions of life;

(c) to advance the education of children and young people through such means as the trustees think fit in accordance with the law of charity; and

(d) for the general purposes of such charitable bodies or for such other exclusively charitable purposes in each case as the trustees may from time to time decide.

In planning our activities and programme for the year, the Shots Foundation has been mindful of the need for public benefit in all our work.

Our Lead Officer Jack Magee continued leading on the initiatives outlined below in the time period of this Trustees report.

We have been able to:

(a) Offer football and sport related fitness activities which benefit the local community including after school clubs in four local schools, half term and summer holiday soccer camps for local children, Visually Impaired Football and the Older Shots Walking Football.

(b) Our soccer camps in school holidays are for 6-16-year-olds.

(c) Encourage new and existing supporters, via local clubs and other community groups to which they belong, to attend matches of Aldershot Town FC in the Community Stand. We run the Fanzone marquee on match days, offering fun activities for our younger supporters and we organise the flag wavers and the half time cross bar challenge.

(d) We offer a Veterans Hub that supports the retired members of the armed forces who are based in our area and ensure that military families are invited to a Remembrance Day fixture. The Vets Hub is held once a month and we offered a Xmas party for the first time in 2022.

(e) We offer volunteering and work experience opportunities to local students.

(f) We have entertained school groups on EBB Stadium tours.

(g) We offer varied opportunities including work experience and volunteering that can also be linked to complementary programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh's award scheme.

(h) The Foundation responds to other events, on an ad hoc basis, which would benefit from our support e.g. Aldershot Picnic and Pop, school summer fetes, the Rushmoor Community Carol Service, the Football Club Open Day etc.

(i) We offer a monthly Visually Impaired Football session at the Aldershot Garrison.

(j) We offer an Older Shots Walking Football for the over 55's with four different sessions per week and including supporting tournaments involving other Walking Football groups from the South East.

(k) We support Aldershot Community Grub Hub and organise for donations at one home game in the season.

(l) We host an annual Primary Schools Football Tournament in conjunction with the National League Trust.

Page 2

for the Year Ended 30 June 2023

(m) We also organise support for visitors to the EBB Stadium with Stoma friendly toilets and sanitary products available.

We are very grateful to our donors, particularly the National League Trust and Qualcomm, to our delivery partners, particularly Quinntessential, and the many volunteers who have given time to the Shots Foundation that makes it the success that it is.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE Charitable activities

Our main activities can be summarised as follows.

Soccer Camps

October half term in 2022 and February 2023. Numbers typically run to fifteen participants.

Older Shots

Four sessions offered every week for over fifty-five men to join and play walking football, led by Mick Quinn of Quintessential. Each session attracts between 20-40 participants, with a weekly attendance of over 100 - every week of the year.

After school football

Held at 4 schools in and around Aldershot. Groups size is limited to sixteen per centre and mirrors the school year - approximately 36 weeks.

Community Stand at the EBB Stadium

The Stand is typically occupied by 150 supporters for most Saturday home games - approximately 2250 supporters have benefitted from the scheme over the season and have enjoyed the access to the Fanzone marquee at the same time.

Veterans Hub

The monthly opportunity for Veterans to come to the Club to enjoy tea, a chat and camaraderie - upwards of thirty people attending per session - over 300 attendees, including regulars, over the course of the year.

Visually Impaired Football

Introduced in January 2023 and is slowly growing the number of attendees.

Aldershot Community Grub Hub

We appealed to Aldershot Supporters to bring donations to the February 2023 Wrexham home fixture and an incredible 85kg worth of donations were given and £1,000 added to their Crowdfunder campaign.

Primary Schools Tournament

We hosted the annual Primary Schools Football Tournament in conjunction with the National League Trust and we had ten entries. The winners in early 2023 were Hammond Junior School and they represented Aldershot Town FC at the regional tournament held at Bromley FC.

Community Champion - Kay Khan

On the 30th anniversary of the Premier League, all Vanarama National League Clubs were asked to nominate a Community Champion and we were delighted to the title to Kay Khan for exceptional work for the Foundation and her work for the Club and local community.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Financial position

We aim to breakeven in financing our activities.

With the support of grants from organisations such as the National League Trust, revenue income from our courses and camps and other ad hoc donations we are succeeding in our aim.

As outlined above, the principal source of funding is ongoing revenue and any grant applications that are successful and the grant from the National League Trust and other funders such as the Armed Forces Covenant.

Other activities such as the Soccer Camps must be self-financing.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Shots In The Community Foundation ('the Company')

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 30 June 2023.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity's trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity's accounts as carried out under Section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act'). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006 Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

  3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

  4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Notes to the Financial Statements for the Year Ended 30 June 2023

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements

The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

Income

All incoming resources are included in the statement of financial activities when entitlement has passed to the charity; it is probable that the economic benefits associated with the transaction will flow to the charity and the amount can be reliably measured. The following specific policies are applied to particular categories of income:

a) income from donations or grants is recognised when there is evidence of entitlement to the gift, receipt is probable and its amount can be measured reliably.

b) legacy income is recognised when receipt is probable and entitlement is established.

c) income from donated goods is measured at the fair value of the goods unless this is impractical to measure reliably, in which case the value is derived from the cost to the donor or the estimated resale value. Donated facilities and services are recognised in the accounts when received if the value can be reliably measured. No amounts are included for the contribution of general volunteers.

d) income from contracts for the supply of services is recognised with the delivery of the contracted service. This is classified as unrestricted funds unless there is a contractual requirement for it to be spent on a particular purpose and returned if unspent, in which case it may be regarded as restricted.

Expenditure

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.

Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.

Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits

The charitable company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the charitable company's pension scheme are charged to the Statement of Financial Activities in the period to which they relate.

When contributions are not expected to be settled wholly within 12 months of the end of the reporting date in which the employees render the related service, the liability is measured on a discounted present value basis. The unwinding of the discount is recognised as an expense in the period in which it arises.
