Flnanclal Instruments
Objectives andpollcles
The charity's activities expose it to a number of financial risks including credit risk, cash flow risk and
liquidity risk. The use of financial derivatives is governed by the charity's policies approved by the
board of Trustees, which provldè written principles on the use of financial derNatives to manage these
risks. The chartiy does not use derivative financial instwments for speculative purposes.
Cash flow risk
The charlty's activities expose it primarily to the financial risks of changes In foreign currency
exchange rate8 and interest rates. The charlty uses foreign exchange forward contracts and interest
rate swap contracts to hedge these exposures.
Intere8t bearing 888et8 and liabilitie8 are held at fixed rate to en8ure certainty of ca8h flows.
Cred1¢ rlsk
The charivs principal financial assets are bank b81anc88 and cash, trade and other receivables, and
investments.
The charity's credit risk is primarily attribulabla to its trade receivables. The amounts presented in the
balance sheet ere net of allowances for doubtful receivables. An allowance for irnpairment is made
where there is an identified Ioss event which, b8sed on previous experienc8, is evidence of a
reduction in the recoverability of tha cash flows.
The credit risk on liquid funds and derivative financial instruments is limited because the
counterparties are banks with high credit-ratings assigned by intemational credrt-rating agencies.
The chanty has no Significant concentration of credit risk, with exposure spread over a large number
of counterparties and customers.
Llquldlty rl$k
In order to maintaln liquidity to ensure that sufficient funds are available for ongoing operations and
