Section C Objectives and activities
| Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit) |
1: The advancement of the Christian religion for the benefit of the public by supporting the reordering, improvement, enhancement, restoration, maintenance and repair of St. Osmunds church, in the Diocese of Salisbury, its monuments, fixtures, fittings, furniture, stained glass, ornaments, other chattels and its churchyard and access. 2. To advance the education of the public in the heritage of St. Osmunds Church and Osmington Parish, by providing information on its history and architecture. |
|---|---|
| The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. The church is an essential element of the small village community but lacks basic facilities such as toilets, catering, lighting and flexibility in its lay out. It also suffers from poor access having a steep approach which is difficult for old residents to access. The aim is to improve facilities for the parishioners and local residents of the village and to provide a more flexible, useable and relevant centre which can be used to stage community events, heritage displays, concerts and plays, working alongside the nearby village hall. All of these modifications require funds. A series of small events has been staged to raise an initial fighting fund to commence the projects. We will now move onto seeking larger grants and donations from institutions and other philanthropic organisations who support such causes across the church community. |

Section E Financial review
Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves
The value of funds as of 31 December 2021 was £9,256 (2020: £9,196). All of these funds come from local fundraising activities held since June 2016, when the re-ordering project was launched. It is our intention to build up these immediately available funds to cover the up-front project costs required to achieve the necessary design, approvals and permissions needed prior to the 2-phase re-ordering exercise which will commence in 2022. In addition, the PCC have agreed to release church funds to help create the conditions necessary for construction activity to commence.
Details of any funds materially in deficit
We realise the need to apply for and obtain larger grants for the main construction activities of the re-ordering exercise.
Further financial review details (Optional information)
You may choose to include additional information, where relevant about:
-
the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);
-
how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;
-
investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.
Once the designs, permissions and approvals are in place and the Diocese are content with the planned re-ordering, we will seek key grants from the main grant allocating agencies at both county and national level. This will include providing WC facilities for the church, improving the access to the grounds of the church, providing kitchen and water supplies, new handrails on the approach with ground lighting, solar panels on the roof, a new audio/visual system, a new lighting system and the development of a heritage display area for local history groups. Many of the pews may be removed to provide a more flexible design for concerts, plays and other community activities no currently possible within the present design constraints.
Section F Other optional information
Section G Declaration
The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above.
