Tlie charity was registered with Ihe Charity Commission as a charitable incorporated organisation on 3 April
2017.
Tl)e objects of The Attachment Research Commiinity (ARC) are to advance in life and relieve the chai'itable
needs of children and young people witl) unmet attachmeiit needs including (but without limitation) by:
l. pronioting SLlPPOrt to such children and young people in schth)Is and other educational settings, including by
pronioting such support lo families and Carers.
2. pron)oling good practice to improve the outcomes for and opportunities and developnient of cllildreii and
young people with unmet attachment needs;
3. promoting good practice to minimise school exclusion of children with identified attachment needs.
sharing and disseminating the findings of academic research with schools, the government. regulators,
traiiiing providers, families, carers, specialist n)edia and the public generally in order to raise awareiiess of and
encourage the development of practises lo assist and support children and young people with attaehinent needs.

forums and the Annual Conference.
ARC works in partnership with a number of parties including the National Associatioii of Virtual Sehool Head
Teacliers (NAVSH), WMVS Cliildren in Care Foundation, the REES Centre for Research in Fostering and
Education aiid tl)e University of Oxford. ARC launcl)ed ils first learntng hub in collaboration witli Hope School.
Liverpool. which in 2022 began an attacliment and trauma project with 10 schools in Liverpool in ¢onjunc¢ion
with Livei'pool Viilual School. ARC is actively launching hub ￿h0O15 acmss the country and have welcomed
fuiilier leai'ning Iiub5 with a plan to grow the progrdmme in 24125.
Objecllves, slralegies aiid aclivilies
The ARC national confei'ence. held every November, provides a focus and nieeting point for members. ARC is
ui'renily preparing for the nintli annual conference, whicl) is CPD certified and the largest confei'ence to dale
with an estimated 600 delegates. Keynote speakers will include Baroness Floella Beiijainiii. Paul Dix, Belinda
Hopkii)s. Maureen McKenna and Ellie Costello. All conferences, live or oiiline, have been well attended by
iiiembers and non-menibers and have stirtiulaled a great deal of interest and promotion of new iiieniberships.
Previous keynote speakers have iiicluded Ashley John-Bapliste, Edward Tronick, Adani Saenz. Sniash Life, Dr
Janet Rose, Kate Cainis, Prof Judy Sebba and Kriss Akabusi MBE, witli worksliops from schools. Irainers and
oilier professionals.
ARC continues to promote its objectives:

Enhaiicing existing and potential collaborative coniniunities of support
Collating and providing a national platfom for research and prnctice
• Helping lo piovide and extend a iiational voice for attachment and Irauina
* Recognising, celebrating and sharing best practice.
Tjie anniial Alex Timpson Award continues to raise interest in attachment and trauma aware s¢hools and at the
2024 annual conference the seventh set of awards will be announced, with categories includin8 Early Years,
Pi'iniary, Secondary, Post 16, Special and PRU and Collaborative work.
Regional ivorkshops liave created furtlier opportunities for education leaders ￿ leam of tl)e benefits. systeins
and piocesse5 l'equii'ed to develop a nurturing, inclusive. attacliment ￿)d trauma aware enviiY)nnienl.
Tl)e trustees have future plans to develop ARC across the UK with regional operational groups and events as
well as webinars aiid podcasts introducing audiences to learn more about ARC and its mission. Additionally,
ARC lias laiinched the first region81 conference in 2024, for the London, South & East Region. The lauiich of
the Call-to-Action canipaign, which began in May 2021, Wds followed by a canipaign film, parlianienlary
pelilion and linking with m¢i?Ibers of Parliament to discuss tlle reconiniendatioi)5-. Better support foi. a core
understanding of atlacliiiieiit and Iraunia lo enable scliool leaders and the whole workforce. lo create a culture
tliat supports VLilnerable children to build trusting relationships and the resilience to achieve their potential.

Tli¢ ARC trustees thank the Alex Timpson Trust (ATT) for ihe generous support in 2023124 and for the
foi'lli¢on)ing year.
The charity does not carry out significant fundrnising activities with the general public and does not use a
pi'ofessional fundraiser or commercial participator to carry out fundraising.

ARC Ilas developed an online infrastructure called the Matrix wl)ich works iogeiher with the ARC pathway to
suppoi't schools and settings audit their current practice, create developnient plans and inipleiiient action
research projects, within tlieir settings or across multiple settings.
The Matrix is a detailed aq8essment and planning strncture for undeislanding and developing a setting's woi'k on
atlacliment and trauma. It lias three strands: individLial. institutional and coinmunity, three foci: people, piDcess
and outcoines and will support the ARC awards Ihroiigh ils tliree levels.. bronze, silver and gold, wliicli
i'ecognises the steps that have been taken- from training staff through to offering suppoit to others. It l)as been
aligiied to tlie Ofsled Education Inspection Framework (EIF) and the National Pmfessional Qualificatioiis
INPQ) fi'amework to ensure it supports boili school strategic self-evaluation forni (SEF) and school
developnient plaii (SDPISIP), and individual staff planning.
An extensive monthly newsletter goes out to all member5 and the wider community Wlth tlie aim of both
updating and reporting on regional developments.
Further investmeiit has been made in website development with the aiin of ensuring that all practilioners can
sllai'e learning as widely and as easily as possible. ARC'S website offers support to anyone interested in beiiig an
att&chniei)t aware scliool or setting with additional benefits for members.
The ARC Audit, ARC Pathway and ARC Matrix. a range of self assessment tools that will align scliools to
Ofsled grading criteria and allow senior leadeiship teams to work in a concise manner wlien approachiiig
8ttachinent and traiinia, laiinched to members in the 2022 Autumn temi. The extended nieinbership offer creates
further professional development opportunities arid raising ARC'S profile witl)in the education cominui)ity. At
the start of 2023124, ARC introduced a training provider sign-posting service on the website.
The piibli¢ website offers advice on commissioning training- what to look for froni a trainer, wl)81 is attachment
and wliy does it n)altefl - with written and filnied explanation and examples.
The Iruslees confirni that they have complied with the requirements of section 17 of the Charities Act 201 I to
liave due regard to Ilie publi¢ benefit guidance published by the Cliarity Coiiimission for Englaiid and Wales.
Financial review
The chai'ity's income inci'eased foi. the year ended 5 April 2024 wilh tlie Annual Conference held in Noveinber
2023 genei'aling in¢ome of £80.552 {2023 £91,601) and the Regional Conference in Mai'¢l) 2024 £38,099
(2023 - £nil). Menibersliip numbers at 5 April 2024 totalled 1,450 (2023 430) and income fiom membership5
for the year lotalled £1 01,218 (2023 £73.250).
Overall the charity rnade a sU￿lUS for the year of £39,091 (2023 - deficit of £9,677).
Net assets at 5 April 2024 totalled £106,200 (2023 - £67.109).
Policy oil reserves
The trustees recognise the need for a reasonable level of financial reserves in order to protect the charity froiii
tl)e possibility of any adverse or unforeseen circumslaiices that could arise.
Unrestricted reserves held at 5 April 2024 enable the charity to continue for at least a further 12 months in the
event that there was a significani drop in income. The trustees are taking appropriale steps ovei. the next
financial year to maintain the level of these reserves to meet the future needs of tlie charity.

April 2017, as amended by a written resolution dated 14 September 2017.

2019 to The Attachment ResCa￿h Community.

As set out iii tl)e conslitutioii, there must be at least three charity trustees. Ai every annual general meetiiig of the
Inembeis of ARC, one third of the charity Irustees shall retire from office but will be eligible for I'eappointment.
Eacli new trustee will receive a copy of the constitution and the latest annual report and statement of ac¢ounls
prior to their appointment.
