QYMC has been running for over 60 years as a music school, offering music education on Saturdays (from 8.30 to 13.00), for 30 weeks per year, to children aged from 18 months-18 years old. There is a focus on participating in ensembles from an early age and we have taken steps to ensure that pupils are able to enjoy our ensembles alongside their instrumental lessons. Pupils are encouraged to take musical examinations where appropriate. One concert is organised every term. This gives the children the opportunity to perform and learn from the experience. It also gives parents and/or other interested persons the chance to attend and enjoy the music. Throughout the year all children regardless of ability are encouraged to participate in concerts wheneverpossible. |

Para 1.38 | The CIO (Foundation Constitution) is run by Trustees, including defined roles of Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary as well as other parent representatives. We are extremely fortunate to also have a very active team of volunteers who run the café and reception in addition to helping with transportation of instruments for concerts etc. These volunteers are generally parents, but we also benefit from older pupils volunteering as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award. Our volunteers are very efficiently coordinated by our administrator. |

| Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held |
Para 1.22 | Following some years when there was a negative operating balance, the financial policy from 2016 has been to generate a small operating surplus , c1-3%, so that the CIO is not put at financial risk. We have found a reserve vital in recent years (due to implications of the pandemic) and whether or not we are in a position to break even, we consider it prudent to maintain a reserve in case of such unexpected events as damage to the property we hire or another pandemic or other situation in which we cannot operate as normal. The reserve which was carried forward into the CIO is generally used for musical instrument purchase and maintenance, subsidising concerts (which if held externally normally run at a loss). This reserve also acts as a contingency for paying rent and wages, and the pandemic was a prime example of the need for a contingency. In the past (pre-CIO) the reserves have been used for one-off concerts such as the QYMC 50th anniversary concert at Cadogan Hall (2014). In 2021-22 (as 2020-2021) this reserve has enabled QYMC to continue to run despite continued reduced numbers. We were also able to extend the Assisted Places Scheme to families whose finances had been hit by Covid-19. This would not have been possible without these reserve funds. In 2022-2023 we increased our fees and student numbers so that we were able to increase the teacher’s fees inline with market expectations and no longer make a loss. In 2023-2024 we held our fees so that our lessons were still accessible during the cost of living crisis. Our trustees have approved a change to our pricing structure for the next academic year, which also allows us to increase the teacher fees. We are now operating on a small profit margin as we aim to keep music tuition as accessible as |
| possible, whilst paying teachers in line with Musicians Union recommended rates. |

We have been awarded £630 for the running of one ensemble (academic year 2024-5) from Cosman Keller Foundation and £2600 for running of SEND classes (From Summer 2025-Spring 2026) We run a cafe on Saturday mornings for our students and families. This brings in a small amount to the club, which we put towards assisted places. |

All prospective trustees have to have a valid DBS. They are screened by The Chair / Musical Director (also a trustee) for suitability prior to meeting with other existing Trustees. The Chair / Musical Director meet with new trustees, to brief them on the history on the history and ethos of the club, the CIO status and constitution and emergency and other procedures. They are also shown where to find the Trustee Information Packs. For specific roles (eg Treasurer) – a longer induction is required to cover financial processes and controls. |

Section A Independent Examiner’s Report
Report to the trustees QUESTORS YOUNG MUSICIANS CLUB On accounts for the year ended[31 August 2025] Charity no (if any) 1172350 Set out on pages (remember to include the page numbers of additional sheets)
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31/08/2025.
Responsibilities and basis As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the of report accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have statement come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
-
the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
-
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
-
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
