Chair Report 2024
Its been a lovely year with all participants working so hard and improving well. We attended the RDA West Mercia regional show with 6 participants and had a great day. All participants we placed in the horse care class with Joey Fox taking first place in the Juniors and gaining the overall highest mark.
Freya has settled in really well and is enjoying her RDA work. She needs to continue her education off the stables now which will start as soon as my horsebox if ready.
Casper is doing well. He’s in regular turnout and has remained sound so he will commence work again end of July which will be 12 months. Hopefully he will remain sound through this.
All sessions are full except 11.30 Wednesday.
We have started to create our play area in the paddock behind the arena. This will now be where the play tunnel is going and we should hopefully start building this next week. This area will always have some activities out and some pic nic tables so can be used for a lot of things.
In terms of the future, I do have some worries. Costs have already skyrocketed. Feed has gone up by £3-£4 a bag for basic feed, vets fees have doubled and electricity and other utilities are still increasing. The up and coming election also brings concerns so I feel it could be a turbulent few months. I personally do not feel opening up more ridden sessions will help, as they do not cover costs, and I worry if we increase prices too much our sessions will be too expensive for many people. It is hoped that by opening up more non-ridden groups sessions and sharing with HunnyBeez extra income can be achieved. We are also hiring out some of the facilities as well.
We are hoping to host a summer party/fundraiser in August and our own in house show Sept/Oct time. I would also like to enter the RDA virtual show this year as well.
I do feel we need some more committee members, the work load is becoming increasingly hard for myself so an active secretary to help with the general running of meetings etc would be helpful. With the fundraising for the indoor arena, someone with marketing and fundraising experience would be a great help as well.
With the money left over from Freya the charity is fairly stable at present and we have reserves for vet bills. Casper has eaten into this a little so I would like to continue doing small fundraisers to ensure we keep much needed reserves topped up.
As always I would like to thank the trustees and volunteers for their help.
