Trustees' report (continued) for the year ended 30 November 2022

Objectives and activities

The charity's objects

1) The preservation and protection of health and the saving of lives by raising awareness of road safety and the consequences of road traffic collisions.

2) To provide relief to families living in West Yorkshire who have suffered the death of a dependent son/daughter (up to the age of 25 years) as a result of road traffic collision in particular through: (A) providing financial assistance to pay for funeral services which they could not otherwise afford through lack of means, (B) providing practical advice and signposting to other relevant organisations for specialist support.

The charity's main activities

We deliver a powerful presentation in schools to raise awareness of the consequences of irresponsible driving to future and current drivers.

We provide emotional and financial support by way of a grant towards funeral costs for bereaved parents who lose a child up to the age of 25 on the roads of West Yorkshire.

Public benefit statement

In setting our objectives and planning our activities our Trustees have given serious consideration to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit and in particular the advancement of education.

Achievements and performance

Our school presentation bookings have already passed the number for the same time last year, indicating that some normality is returning.

Our Walk4Naomi is being planned and is becoming more popular every year.

In the last financial year we helped one family in Calderdale with a grant towards funeral costs, emotional support and advice was also given. We know that one does not seem a lot but we would like to see none, meaning no young person has died on our roads. We are aware that thi will never be the case as awareness of our charity increases.

Financial review

The net receipts for the year were £4,084.

Reserves policy

The charity's free reserves, at the year end were £45,385.

The trustees have set aside reserves for unexpected incidents. As we help bereaved parents cover the cost of funerals in West Yorkshire it is unknown how many parents need support each year. If funds continue to increase above the current level we will expand our support across the whole of Yorkshire.

Approved by the board of trustees on 20/03/2023
