## **MASTIN MOOR GARDENS AND ALLOTMENTS CIO (REG 1172292) REPORT AND ACCOUNTS FOR PERIOD ENDING MARCH 31ST 2021**

## **TREASURERS REPORT**

In common with everyone else this year has been heavily dominated by the Covid 19 pandemic. Despite the constraints imposed by the lockdowns most plotholders managed to “keep going” !

The main financial event in the year was the restoration of the key central paths which had deteriorated after nearly twenty years . Despite real problems in securing a contractor, due partly to Covid, a contract was ultimately agreed with Cresta Ltd (the old Groundwork Creswell). A grant of £4106 was secured from Viridor and this , together with the funds provided by Derbyshire County Council (in 2019/2020) allowed us to meet the £6000 gross cost. The work was carried out in August 2020. Thanks to aerial drone shots provided by Gerry Machen a clear overhead view of the work was posted on the MMGA website.

For the second year running we were able, despite Covid, to support a week of activities by local teenagers under the National Citizenship Scheme (NCS) . This was just as successful as in 2019 . Indeed some of the young ladies seem to particularly enjoy “wallowing in the mud” whilst digging out the pond.......a great piece of work . They also enjoyed repainting the picnic benches and chairs as again the weather looked kindly on them.

Allotment fees were held at £25 for a full plot and, thanks to “advance future year payments “ a total of £513 was collected as all the plots were let despite a significant “turnover “ of plotholders. It was encouraging to see a number of ladies taking up plots ..

A “section 137” grant of £200 was also secured from Staveley TC towards a new bench and seats provided by Bolsover Woodland Enterprise .

A “catch up” by Water Plus the new supplier of water meant that we suffered three half years of charges totalling £229 during the period.. Insurance costs also rose to £165 to give us full public liability cover..

The Income and Expenditure Accounts therefore reflect the prior year “contribution “ from DCC and hence show an excess of expenditure over income of £2801. This has reduced the funds as per the Balance sheet to £8438.20 . Excluding the paths spend leaves us with a “running costs” deficit of £908.14.

Shortly after the year end (April 2021) we received news that we had been awarded funds of £2000 form the Hartington Reclamation scheme and we are indebted to Lisa Collins and Paul Jacobs for their efforts in representing “our case” .

In October 2020 Chatsworth Settlement Trustees , on appeal , received planning permission for the 650 houses development on the Mastin Moor Woodthorpe site . We have maintained contact and held discussions with CST ,, now a period of almost a decade!, and anticipate further progress in 2021 once CST have established their implementation plan.

The allotments and gardens continue to develop and mature and we continue to be indebted to the work of Ted, Ray and others in maintaining the site and their efforts have been supported by the wider work of allotment holders, volunteers and committee members such as Mick and Phil, with successful “working party” sessions being held despite the constraints of Covid. .

Keith Hodgson has served MMGA as Chairman for a crucial five years during which time we have established MMGA as a charity and continued to evolve to serve the community. He has decided to resign the role and we are indebted to him for his efforts. The Covid crisis has of course precluded any Trustee meetings and , pending the opportunity to hold such meetings, Ted Chapman , the Vice Chairman , has taken over the “Chair” role.
