Talita Kum School Fund raises funds and supports the school of that name in Chachagüí, Colombia, for disadvantaged and disabled children who are offered a caring education in small groups which they would have difficulty finding in state schools. Our charity’s aim is to help the school establish itself sufficiently to be able to make itself independent of our financial help and to this end in 2019 we embarked on a funded programme which had a promising start with responsibility for administrative systems, including accounts and health and safety policy being transferred to the school. By 2020 progress had been made with the database and local fundraising. The school started collecting fees again from those families who could afford to pay and they relied again on support from us and from charities in Italy.
Our income in 2023, as in 2022, relied mainly on our regular sponsors and donors. We sent £8,000 to the school. In addition, one of our sponsors generously donated funds to buy 4 new PC’s for the children and others sent extra to provide for Christmas festivities. We have a balance of over £7816 on deposit at the end of 2023.
Our charity’s costs remain negligible; We have no offices, paid staff or equipment and this year’s small charges are again for foreign currency transactions.

News from Colombia
Excerpt from Headteacher’s report:
Fundraising
Among one of the activities to raise funds was the harvest of avocados, 250,000 pesos was raised from this activity and it went toward the purchase of a sack of rice and the remainder was used to buy meat to supplement the food for the children
Pupil performance
The children’s progress has improved a lot, since they have the opportunity to have breakfast in the school which helps their concentration and allows them to learn easily, develop activities with more enthusiasm and creativity.
The future
We have to accept that fundraising in Colombia is a challenge. The school management in Colombia is taken up with teaching the children and do not have time or expertise for matters outside of school.
