Talita Kum School Fund raises funds and supports the school of that name in Chachagüí, Colombia, for disadvantaged and disabled children who are offered a caring education in small groups which they would have difficulty finding in state schools. Our charity’s aim is to help the school establish itself sufficiently to be able to make itself independent of our financial help and to this end in 2019 we embarked on a funded programme which had a promising start with responsibility for administrative systems, including accounts and health and safety policy being transferred to the school. By 2020 progress had been made with the database and local fundraising. There was hope that the school might be able to use the premises of the secondary school as a new school had been built. Unfortunately an access road to the school is still awaited. COVID-19 had a detrimental effect on the ability of the school to collect fees from parents and they relied again on support from us and from charities in Italy.
Our income in 2022, as in 2021, relied mainly on our regular sponsors and donors and a very welcome grant of £2000 from the Waterloo foundation. We sent £8,800 to the school. We have a balance of over £9114 on deposit at the end of 2022.
Our charity’s costs remain negligible; We have no offices, paid staff or equipment and this year’s small charges are again for foreign currency transactions.
Trustees
Sally Cherubini, Sarah Aitken and Katie Couchman were reappointed Trustee at the June AGM.

News from Colombia
Excerpt from Headteacher’s report:
This year we have concentrated on working with those who have problems and difficulties in learning, by working with them individually and giving priority to those with most difficulties. At the end of the year we are pleased with the results. Several of the older children still had difficulty reading but this year by implementing techniques and new resources, such as cards, sheets, and audios means that they have learned to read.
The future
We are sorry to report that the school management in Colombia has made no further progress towards financial independence. We continue to encourage them in their endeavours.
