## **I. Objectives and Activities** 

## **Objectives** 

Hidaya Foundation has been established in March 2017 and registered with the charity commission to help and support the community in different aspects. 

The first objective of our foundation is to help advance of the religion of Islam by promoting the teachings and tenets of Islam, by providing or assisting in the provision of facilities for worship and Islamic education. This is all done in accordance with the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be Upon Him) as interpreted by the Ahle Sunnah Wal Jamaah School of Thought. 

As part of our objectives, we aim at supporting to relieve financial hardship, distress and suffering among poor people, victims of natural disasters and other people in need by making grants or loans for providing or paying for items, equipment, services and facilities, including the provision of food, clothing, and accommodation for the said persons. 

Eventually, our foundation gives a central place to advancing of education for the benefit of the poor, the underprivileged and the general public by providing or assisting in the provision of educational activities and facilities, such as schools, supplementary schools, nurseries and training centres. 

## **Main Activities** 

When developing all the activities below, our trustees have considered the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit and in particular supplementary public benefit guidance on the advancement of religion as well as on the advancement of education. 

## **A. Before School Religious activities for children** 

At the start of this period, the COVID restrictions started to be lifted and we slowly got the activities back to normal. The morning classes were more dedicated to the teenagers to create a discussion and awareness platform, the classes were for 1h every morning and were focused on building the bridges with the youth to get them more active and involved in the society and with the community. 

## **B. After School Religious activities for children** 

This after-school activity has still been the main activity with the community. We were lucky to be able to restart the activities onsite after the lockdown restrictions were lifted. For our students and their parents, it was like a new breath as things seemed to go back to the pre-Covid conditions. 

The classes continued to emphasise on the perfection of the Quran reading and the teaching of the main principles of Islam to children aged between 5 and 16. Parents meetings and reports were organised throughout the period to track the progress of the students and ensure the teachings is up to standard. 

The fees to join to the after-school classes were of £40 per month per child (Discount was given for siblings). 




## **C. Evening classes for adults (Men only)** 

The classes first introduced in 2019 require the students to attend 3 days a week from 7.30pm to 9pm. The monthly participation fees are £30 per month per student. 

As an organisation’s first objective is to help advance the religion, by offering classes of memorisation of Quran, we believe that these adults will be exposed directly to the Quran and its peace messages away from any wrong interpretation. This will then make them helpful and amiable people in their surroundings. 

## **D. Classes for ladies** 

These classes have been given to the ladies of the community to bring them close to education and get them a wider knowledge and culture in the sciences of Quran. A qualified volunteer teacher has taught the basics of reading Quran in a regular way. Most of the ladies attending are housewives making it an opportunity 

## **E. Adults Religious Evening Classes** 

In September 2021, we have started adults evening classes where different cultural and religious subjects are taught. The students from different background have been given opportunity to join from different places in the world. The focus for the first year was given on the French-speaking students as there is a new community that is growing within the city and there aren’t many activities catered for them. The teachings are made in French and Arabic, the purpose being to educate these adults to learn the authentic teachings of Islam away from all wrong interpretations. We have invested in teaching materials (smart screens, cameras, sound system…) and we had many students who joined us from France. 

The classes were developed with the following values: **Sincerity, Respect, Humbleness, Perseverance, Responsibility & Well-wishing** 

The classes are Monday to Friday from 7.30pm to 10pm during term time, the fees were £700 per academic year per student. The classes are open equally for ladies and men. 

## **F. English Classes for French speakers** 

In November 2021, we have started English classes in our premises for French speakers who recently immigrated to the UK, open for ladies and men. The support used was the book “English for everyone”, the focus was on giving the students good English grammatical basis and enhance their vocabulary, their accent and enable to be more involved in the society. 

## **G. Renewal works** 

During the summer 2021, we have done many renewal works to the building. We have repainted the whole of the external face of the building, refreshed the paints in the inside of the building, changed all the windows and done some refreshing works inside the building. 

## **H. Ramadhan Fundraising** 

In order to prepare for the new adults classes and to complete the renewal works, we have organised an online fundraising during the Islamic month of Ramadhan and we have been able to collect a good sum that covered must of our costs and has enabled us to get in a more comfortable position financially. 




## **II. Achievements and Performance** 

Through this reporting period we have continued the activities started previously and developed new activities trying to get back to normal after all the COVID restrictions were gradually lifted. We have managed to manage the following : 

-  Continue to give to the children who have attended an induction to reading Arabic in view of being able to understand the basics of Islam. 

-  Teach to some of the children the art of reading the Quran enabling them to memorise it. 

-  Introduce them to the importance of good morals and ethics to be able to live in harmony within the society. 

-  Introduce adults to the reading and memorisation of the holy Quran, the aim being to create a spiritual purification that leads to the person being more calm and relaxed and would have then a positive impact on their social lives. 

-  Offering classes to the ladies (Mostly housewives) to enable them to be more active in their social lives and have a more positive approach on the religious topics. 

-  Developed the adults evening classes to train future religious leaders who can lead by example in the society with values of tolerance and well-wishing to others. 

-  Enabled some of new immigrants to learn English to be able to be more active and integrated to the society. 

-  Completed some works in the building to make it more welcoming and attractive to the community. 

-  Organised an online fundraising campaign that has enabled us to be in a more comfortable position as you can see in detail in the following section. 

## **III. Financial Review** 

The total receipts for this reporting period was **£109,044** : 

- **£2,802** was our opening balance in the bank account from the previous reporting period 

- **£55,502** received from tuition fees 

- **£26,706** received from donations (private & fundraising) 

- **£20,806** received from other sources (mainly from subletting our premises) 

- **£3,050** received to sponsor a student 

- **£97** received as government grant for furlough payment 

- **£80** received from loans 

The total payments made during this period were **£77,376 :** 

- **£38,925** on salaries 

- **£15,747** on rent of the building 

- **£5,031** on training & teaching material 

- **£4,153** on heat & light for the building 

- **£4,055** on repairs & maintenance 

- **£3,821** on business rates (we had arrears) 

- **£2,500** on loan return from the previous period 

- **£1,016** on subscriptions 

- **£680** on professional fees 

- **£534** on telephone & internet bills 

- **£325** on refunds 

- **£307** on insurance 

- **£106** on bank charges 

- **£101** on computer costs 

- **£77** on printing, postage and stationary 

At the end of the period, the net result was an excess of receipts over payments of **£31,667** 

The policy of our charity is to hold a minimum reserve amount (Not specified) to be able to cope with emergency repairs and unpredicted spending, we are having a bigger excess as we are hoping to be able to expand our project. 




## **IV. Structure, Governance and Management** 

Hidaya Foundation is a CIO governed by a Constitution 

The first charity trustees, herein referred to as ‘Founding Trustees’ are

- Mohamed Sohail Niaz Amad 

Apart from the Founding Trustees, every trustee must be appointed only after a nomination from any one trustee is presented to the trustees, and the majority of the trustees pass a resolution to appoint the said trustee for a term determined by the trustees at a properly convened meeting of the Trustees. 

Every charity trustee that has been and will be appointed met the following criteria: 

- Must be a natural person. 

- If he or she is above the age of 16 years 

No one is entitled to act as a charity trustee whether on appointment or on any re-appointment until he or she has expressly acknowledged, in whatever way the charity trustees decide, his or her acceptance of the office of charity trustee. 

There must be at least three charity trustees. If the number falls below this minimum, the remaining trustee or trustees may act only to call a meeting of the charity trustees, or appoint a new charity trustee. 

There shall be no maximum number of charity trustees that may be appointed to the CIO.

**Respective** The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. **responsibilities of** The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year **trustees and examiner** under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.    - examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act, 

   - to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and 

   - to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. 

- **Basis of independent** My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given **examiner’s statement** by the Charity Commission.  An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records.  It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters.  The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
