## Section D Achievements and performance

Object a) **Summary of the main** Created a visitor centre in Pilar, Paraguay with a display museum with **achievements of the charity** specimens from the Ñeembucú Wetland Complex **during the year** Object b) The charity made grants to fund two field workers in Paraguay, one in parasitology and one in primatology and environmental education and also project supervision and management. The primatological researcher continued a reforestation programme in the Paraguayan Atlantic Forest, worked with several rural schools and made new connections in indigenous communities across Itapúa department. The parasitology research presented his research (in Spanish) at an international conference in Ecuador, supervised 18 undergraduate and masters students and contributed to several peer-reviewed publications. Object c) Four trips were undertaken by students from European and US universities, to the Gran Chaco and Atlantic Forest habitats and one trip to the Pantanal, allowing them access to little known and understudied habitats to help generate a passion for conserving threatened ecosystems.

Object d) An economically-beneficial reforestation programme was started with a partner Indigenous Mbya Guaraní community. This programme combines reforestation of important Atlantic Forest native tree species with planting of the (also native) yerba mate cash crop tree. The people will gain a sustainable income from the harvest of the leaves (used to make a very popular tea) while the Atlantic Forest regenerates on previously deforested land. In 2024, a further 5ha were replanted (10,000 saplings) and 22 families are now benefitting from the increased income. In total 12ha have been replanted (33,500 saplings).

Object e) We hosted Pilar’s first Howler Monkey Festival to promote the conservation of the urban population of black and gold howler monkeys in the city. We visited several rural and indigenous schools in Itapúa department and schools in Pilar delivering lessons in environmental education.

Object f) The new management of AgroForestal Rio Verde, that owns the Cerrado habitat where the white winged nightjar is found, is applying for protected status for the remaining Cerrado on the property. We provided information from our historical data on the critical areas for the species and other endangered species found within the area.
