## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES** 

The purposes of the charity, as set out in its governing document are the promotion of social inclusion among young people aged 10 to 25 years old with physical disabilities, who are socially excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of their disability. To provide help, support and advice for young people with physical disabilities and their families. To provide workshops, forums, advocacy and general support along with recreational facilities and opportunities in the interest of social welfare and improving conditions of life. 

## **Statement of trustees' responsibilities in relation to the financial statements** 

The charity trustees are responsible for preparing a trustees' annual report and financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice). The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the applicable Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations, and the provisions of the Trust deed. The Trustees are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. 

Throughout 2020, we have worked extremely hard to ensure that the objectives have been met and that our work has been for the public benefit. In writing this report, the Trustees have had to consider the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit. In 2020, CP Teens UK has worked with 'Help, Hope, Inspiration and Friendship' at its core and with the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. In March 2020, CP Teens UK went fully virtual but kept its service users connected, engaged & supported. During 2020, CP Teens UK has: 

•  Provided 2 ‘in-person’ social events (January and early March, prior to lockdown). These were the heavily over-subscribed Bowling event followed by a meal in Sheffield (as part of the ‘Social Series’) and the annual Quiz. The Social Series was planned to continue around the UK throughout the year, including Glasgow, London & Plymouth, but unfortunately had to be cancelled due to Covid-19. 

• Put on & delivered the Virtual Sponsored Wobble. Unfortunately, the ‘real’ Sponsored Wobble had to be cancelled due to Covid-19. However, the Virtual Sponsored Wobble was a huge success with youngsters & their families participating within their household bubbles across the UK at the same time. The challenge was adapted to any distance, however possible or however participants chose to do it. From tricycles, to cross running machines, to RaceRunners, over 15 youngsters and families joined in across the UK and over £4,000 was raised for CP Teens UK. 

• Provided over 36 hours of interactive virtual socialising throughout lockdown with the initiative ‘Coffee & Chat’ in partnership with CP Sport. These were informal, chatty sessions every Thursday morning via Zoom for an hour & a half at a time. Special guests were also invited & attended each week, including Paralympians. 

• Provided a weekly lockdown quiz with a prize each week. The prize always had lockdown in mind, e.g. a JustEat voucher or a chocolate hamper delivered to the winner’s door, to keep service users engaged & spirits up. 

• Put on ‘Paint Your Own…’ Day – service users were sent ceramic kits of their choice and everyone painted together virtually and a gallery was shared at the end of the day to the public. 

• Put on the CP Teens UK Bake Off – service users were invited to bake something of their choice at home and send in photos, their recipe and their method over a 2-day period. All entries (with permission) were shared on CP Teens UK official social media as they came in. All entries were sent to a judging panel who then selected the top 3. The top 3 were then put to a public vote in a live ‘results show’ and the CP Teens UK Bake Off Winner was crowned.

• Put on & delivered the CP Teens UK Virtual Award Ceremony – hosted by Ellie Simpson & Chloe Tear, and judged by the Board of Trustees, the ceremony recognised inspiring individuals. 82 people formed the virtual audience and 14 awards were ‘presented’ to deserving recipients, many of whom were service users. All award winners were sent a personalised engraved trophy. 

• Loaned out a RaceRunner to Tobias Weller – ‘Captain Tobias’ was headline news when he completed a mighty marathon for charity during lockdown. CP Teens UK made it possible by hiring out a RaceRunner and the relevant equipment. 

• Put on CP Teens UK Virtual Halloween – this included a fancy dress competition with different categories and a Halloween paint ceramic kit activity. 

• Put on ‘#NoBangs Bonfire Night’ – due to an under developed moro reflex, people with Cerebral Palsy startle very easily and this can make Bonfire Night stressful & challenging. CP Teens UK sent out pamper packs and had online discussion & interactions to try and distract from the fireworks. The initiative was hugely popular and appreciated, as well as being heavily oversubscribed. We decided to double our capacity from 25 youngsters to 50 and they were UK wide. 

• Put on the ‘Winter Warmer’ Cooking Competition – service users were invited to cook a dish of their choice at home and enter it into the CP Teens UK ‘Winter Warmer’ Competition. The entries were fantastic and included Hungarian Spiced Hot Chocolate, Winter Vegetable Bake and Belgian Chocolate Cookies. 

• Put on ‘Paint Your Own Bauble’ Day – service users were sent plain baubles and paint sets. Everyone painted together virtually, and a gallery was shared at the end of the day with the public. 

• Continued to connect and unite physically disabled youngsters online in a safe and monitored environment, enabling friendships, and combating loneliness and social isolation. 

• Continued the Ambassador Programme for youngsters 13-25 years old with a physical disability, which provides them with a point of responsibility and with a platform to be positive role models for other youngsters. 

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW** 

• During the year to 31 December 2020, the charity received income from charitable events and donations of £7,109. 

• The charity's overheads comprised £409 Public Liability insurance, £2,843 rent, £246 non-domestic rates, £793 advertising/website, £7 printing & stationery, £222 telephone and £7 sundry. 

• No additional equipment was purchased during the year. The depreciation charge on existing equipment was £705 (20% Reducing Balance) 

• At the end of December 2020 the charity held cash funds of £45,425 and other assets of £2,818. 

• The board of trustees considers the charity to be in a stable financial position to continue as a going concern and focus on delivering the objectives outlined in its governing document. 

The charity does not have any paid employees and has minimal monthly outgoings (premises overheads). As such, a formal Reserves Policy has not yet been established. The trustees will continue to review the situation on a quarterly basis and should the need arise a policy will be formulated.

## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT** 

CP Teens UK is a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation). The charity is controlled by its governing document and its Board of Trustees. 

The appointment of trustees follows the procedure outlined in the charity’s governing document. The Board of Trustees follow and adhere to the procedure. One third of the trustees stands down on an annual basis and are re-elected by the charity’s members (i.e. the trustees). 

New trustees undergo a formal induction process; they are provided with the charity’s mission, aims and objectives and are provided with a full insight into the charity’s work. New trustees are also provided with the charity’s policies and code of conducts. All prospective trustees are DBS checked prior to successfully obtaining a role on the Board. 

When considering the co-option and recruitment of trustees, the Board has regard to the requirement for ensuring that there is a balance of knowledge and expertise to govern the charity effectively. The Board is also careful to balance the number of parents of young people with disabilities to the number of people who are not parents of young people with disabilities.

## 1 **Accounting policies** 

## **Basis of preparation** 

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic if Ireland (FRS 102) issued on 16 July 2014 and the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Charities Act 2011. 

## **Change in basis of accounting or to previous accounts** 

There has been no change to the accounting policies (valuation rules and method of accounting) since last year and no changes have been made to accounts for previous years. 

## **Fund accounting** 

Unrestricted funds These are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objects of the charity. Designated funds These are unrestricted funds earmarked by the trustees for particular purposes. Revaluation funds These are unrestricted funds which include a revaluation reserve representing the restatement of investment assets at their market values. Restricted funds These are available for use subject to restrictions imposed by the donor or through terms of an appeal. 

## **Income** 

Recognition of income Income is included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SoFA) when the charity becomes entitled to, and virtually certain to receive, the income and the amount of the income can be measured with sufficient reliability. ## **Expenditure** 

Recognition of Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis. Expenditure includes any VAT which expenditure cannot be fully recovered, and is reported as part of the expenditure to which it relates. ## **Tangible fixed assets and depreciation** 

Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life:

## **Freehold investment property** 

Investment properties are measured initially at cost and subsequently at fair value at each balance sheet date and are not depreciated. All gains or losses are taken to the Statement of Financial Activities as they arise. 

## **Stocks** 

Stock is included at the lower of cost or net realisable value. Donated items of stock are recognised at fair value which is the amount the charity would have been willing to pay for the items on the open market. 

## **Trade and other debtors** 

Trade and other debtors are recognised at the settlement amount due after any trade discount offered. Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid net of any trade discounts due. 

## **Cash and cash equivalents** 

Cash and cash equivalents comprise cash at bank and on hand, demand deposits with banks and other shortterm highly liquid investments with original maturities of three months or less and bank overdrafts. In the statement of financial position, bank overdrafts are shown within borrowings or current liabilities. In the Statement of Cash Flows, cash and cash equivalents are shown net of bank overdrafts that are repayable on demand and form an integral part of the company's cash management.

## **Trade and other creditors** 

Short term creditors are measured at the transaction price. Other creditors and provisions are recognised where the charity has a present obligation resulting from a past event that will probably result in the transfer of funds to a third party and the amount due to settle the obligation can be measured or estimated reliably. Creditors and provisions are normally recognised at their settlement amount after allowing for any trade discounts due. 

## **Research and development** 

Expenditure on research and development is written off in the year in which it is incurred. 

## **Foreign currencies** 

Monetary assets and liabilities denominated in currencies other than the functional currency of the charity are translated at the rates of exchange prevailing at the end of the reporting period. 

Transactions in currencies other than the functional currency of the charity are recorded at the rate of exchange on the date that the transaction occurred. 

All exchange differences are taken into account in arriving at net income/expenditure. 

## **Leased assets** 

Where the charity enters into a lease which entails taking substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership of an asset, the lease is treated as a finance lease. 

Leases which do not transfer substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership to charity are classified as operating leases. 

Assets held under finance leases are initially recognised as assets of the charity at their fair value at the inception of the lease or, if lower, at the present value of the minimum lease payments. The corresponding liability to the lessor is included in the balance sheet date as a finance lease obligation. Lease payments are apportioned between finance expenses and reduction of the lease obligation so as to achieve a constant rate of interest on the remaining balance of the liability. Finance expenses are recognised immediately, unless they are directly attributable to qualifying assets, in which case they are capitalised in accordance with the charity's policy on borrowing costs. 

Assets held under finance leases are depreciated in the same way as owned assets. 

Operating lease payments are recognised as an expense on a straight-line basis over the lease term. 

In the event that lease incentives are received to enter into operating leases, such incentives are recognised as a liability. The aggregate benefit of incentives is recognised as a reduction of rental expense on a straightline basis. 

## **Pension costs** 

The charity operates a defined contribution plan for its employees. A defined contribution plan is a pension plan under which the charity pays fixed contributions into a separate entity. Once the contributions have been paid the charity has no further payments obligations. The contributions are recognised as expenses when they fall due. Amounts not paid are shown in accruals in the balance sheet. The assets of the plan are held separately from the charity in independently administered funds. 

## **Receipt of donated goods, facilities and services** 

All donated goods, facilities and services received are recognised within incoming resources and expenditure at an estimate of the value to the charity.
