Structure Governance and Management:

as the basls for our 8overnln8 docum•nL The CIO has no pald employees; the trustees and volunt••r
society members do all the work of the organlsatlon and are not pakl.
Summary of objectlves:
The oblectlves of the ao are: To brln8 astronomy to people of all ages and abllltles, prlmarlly In and
around the Blshop Auckland and Weardale areas: to host m¢Mthly meetln8s wlth speakers; to
organlse and conduct astronomlcal observlng events; and to arrange astronomylspace then)ed talks
for the 8eneral publlc. schools and other or8anlsatlons, Includln8 those wlth ¥)ectal needs. We now
also provlde Solar obseryln8 sesslons wlth speclallsed equlpment. prlmarlly for {but not Ilmlted to)
schools and other youth groups.
Artlvltles urmlertaken for Publlc Benefft:
The trustees have complled wlth thelr duty In section 4 of the 2006 act to have due regard to
8uldance on publlc benefft publlshed by the charlty commlsslon.
The Charlty holds octaslonal observlng events whlch are open to the General publlc, help scout
groups to acqulre thelr 'Space" badges. Also expanded our Solar observlng sesslons for schools and
vouth 8roups vla our Solar telescopes wlth speclallsed solar fllters.
Help schools In fun and educatlonal ways with "space camp'events In conlurbctlon wlth the Stephen
Hawklng Foundation.
Also, we are now runnln8 workshops and observln8 sesslons at Yhe Locomotlon, rallway museum In
Shlldon, these are free to the publlc on the museum's grounds.
Achlevements and performance
The charfty contlnues wlth our usual outreach/educatlonal work, as well as our monthly meetlngs
We contlnue to support the Areas of Outstsndln8 Natural Beauty In En8land (AONB/National
Landscapes) "Dark Sky Inltlatlve" program, and the Natlonal Nature Reserves In En8land (NNR).
The Soclety has recently presented Astronomkal talks to the W.1 and have enqulries from the U3A.
