||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document|Para 1.17|**OneRio aims to create a safe and**
**enabling environment for vulnerable**
**children and young people up to the age**
**of 25, where they can develop skills, and**
**gain access to services and opportunities**
**to build bright, successful futures for**
**themselves and their community. Using**
**rugby as a platform to enable support**
**through education and healthcare,**
**OneRio provides tangible and**
**interconnected opportunities for**
**educational, professional and personal**
**development.**|
|Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or services
identified in the accounts.|Para 1.17 and
1.19|**OneRio has continued to raise money**
**and support our partner organisation in**
**Brazil, UmRio. This has been done**
**through provision of restricted funds for**
**spending by UmRio, as well as a stipend**
**to our Country Director in Brazil, enabling**
**him to oversee our supported activities in**
**Brazil, ensuring that the activities**
**contribute to OneRio's wider strategic**
**goals.**|
|Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit|Para 1.18|**In planning and implementing the**
**activities for the year, the trustees**
**consulted the guidance on public benefit**
**issued by the Charity Commission.**|

## **Achievements and Performance**

||Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.|Para 1.20|**OneRio's programmatic vision for 2022**
**was grounded in data surrounding the**
**holistic recovery of youth following the**
**covid-19 pandemic. Social indicators**
**from our end of year analysis in 2021**
**indicated that high levels of school**
**abandonment and truancy would**
**continue into 2022, and that young**
**people returning to education would have**
**fallen further behind in age-grade literacy**
**and mathematics. Data also indicated**
**that mental health of young**
**people had been significantly impacted**
**by 2 years of stay-at-home directives, and**
**that financial pressures had**
**increased the domestic burden of**
**vulnerable youth across Rio's favela**
**communities. Based on this**
**understanding,**
**in 2022 we sought to continue to deliver**
**and grow our in-person services in Morro**
**do Castro, whilst retaining our**
**capacity and dynamism to adapt**
**programming to remote platforms when**
**and where it is required. This has**
**involved expanding our presence in**
**Morro do Castro by incorporating an**
**additional 12 hours of in class activities**
**into our weekly programme, setting up**
**programmes in two new schools within**
**the city of Niterói, and adjusting our**
**development model to include a 5th pillar**
**of intervention, Social Services, focused**
**on ensuring no child within the**
**communities we serve is left behind.**
**These priorities are directly in line with**
**OneRio's wider organisation vision, to**
**end**
**intergenerational poverty in the**
**communities it serves, and to help other**
**communities do the same.**
**Key figures & highlights:**
●**12 additional hours of additional**
**programming per week in Morro**
**do Castro**
●**Girls’ mental health scores 40%**
**above pre-pandemic levels**
●**16th in nationwide robot Olympics**
●**Programming in three new**
**schools supporting nearly 1,700**
**people**
●**Across all three partner schools,**
**Project Rescue put 80% of youth**
**back in the classroom.**|

## **Financial Review**

|**Financial Review**|||
|---|---|---|
|Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period|Para 1.21|**Income for the period was £64k (FY21:**
**£41k), supported by the first year of gift**
**aid claims.**
**Total expenditure for the year was £39k**
**(FY20: £24k), with the increase driven by**
**£15k of funding provided to our partner**
**organisation (UmRio).**|
|Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held|Para 1.22|**OneRio’s reserves consist of unrestricted**
**funds that are not readily available for**
**spending, since the spending of these**
**funds may adversely impact OneRio’s**
**ability to deliver its long-term aims. In**
**line with Charity Commission guidance,**
**when determining our reserves, we**
**consider only unrestricted funds that are**
**not set aside to meet future essential**
**spending.**
**Reserves are held by OneRio for the**
**following reasons:**
●**To provide resilience in the face of**
**unforeseen financial difficulties;**
**and**
●**To facilitate future growth of**
**OneRio.**
**In determining the target level of reserves**
**to be held by OneRio, we consider those**
**that are sufficient for the charity to**
**sustain its operations for a period of 12**
**months, should no additional external**
**funding be received.**|
