## **Objectives and Activities**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document|Para 1.17|**OneRio aims to create a safe and**
**enabling environment for vulnerable**
**children and young people up to the age**
**of 25, where they can develop skills, and**
**gain access to services and**
**opportunities to build bright, successful**
**futures for themselves and their**
**community. Using rugby as a platform**
**to enable support through education**
**and healthcare, OneRio provides**
**tangible and interconnected**
**opportunities for educational,**
**professional andpersonal development.**|
|Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.|Para 1.17 and
1.19|**OneRio has continued to raise money**
**and support our partner organisation in**
**Brazil, UmRio. This has been done**
**through provision of restricted funds for**
**spending by UmRio, as well as a stipend**
**to our Country Director in Brazil,**
**enabling him to oversee our supported**
**activities in Brazil, ensuring that the**
**activities contribute to OneRio's wider**
**strategic goals.**
**Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, direct**
**programming activities within Morro do**
**Castro were not possible in the period.**
**To the extent that it was possible, these**
**were replaced with remote programming**
**via Zoom.**
**Our response to the impacts of the**
**pandemic also included the provision of**
**food security packages to the most**
**vulnerable families within Morro do**
**Castro.**|

Statement confirming Para 1.18 **In planning and implementing the** whether the trustees have **activities for the year, the trustees** had regard to the guidance **consulted the guidance on public** issued by the Charity **benefit issued by the Charity** Commission on public **Commission.** benefit

## **Achievements and Performance**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.|Para 1.20|**A total of 325 young people were**
**supported by OneRio/UmRio**
**interventions in Morro do Castro in**
**2020. A further 640 people have**
**benefited indirectly from our activities**
**in 2020, of which 51% were women.**
**PROGRAMMING:**
**The rugby programme was converted**
**into a remote exercise programme. In**
**total, the programme benefitted a total**
**of 27 children and young people**
**throughout the year.**
**All education programmes moved to**
**remote platforms. A total of 60 children**
**and young people took part in our**
**remote education programmes. 34**
**children and young people participated**
**in UmRio English classes, and 11**
**children and young people received**
**private tuition. A total of 15 young**
**people and adults participated in our**
**preparatory course for university**
**entrance exams and 5 young people**
**were accepted to study at university**
**this year.**
**9 young people took part in our**
**employability course and all went on to**
**gain remote work experience.**
**21 young people took part in our social**
**entrepreneurship curriculum. This**
**includes 10 young people from Shamas**
**(Kenya), who completed the course as**
**part of the Lockdown Leaders, youth**
**leaders exchange programme.**
**HEALTHCARE**
**21 participants engaged in roundtable**
**discussions around healthcare and**
**prevention with the UmRio healthcare**
**coordinator. A further 3 families have**|

**received support from our healthcare contingency fund. 8 students have been receiving free psychological support from the UmRio Mental Health Care network. FOOD SECURITY 17 tons of food were delivered to 80 families over the period - the equivalent of 38,550 meals. An additional 5 tons of cleaning and personal hygiene products were delivered to beneficiaries. POVERTY REDUCTION Arguably one of the most important achievements in our organisational history has been our contribution to the reduction in poverty levels in Morro do Castro, at a time when per-capita income reduced 43% and 38% of those in work were made redundant. The combination of our crisis strategy interventions raised per-capita income by 62%, taking half of those living in extreme poverty above the World Banks’s Extreme Poverty Line, and reducing the number of people living on less than US$1 from 106 to 11.**

## **Financial Review**

|**Financial Review**|||
|---|---|---|
|Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period|Para 1.21|**We note that the current reporting**
**period is 9.5 months. As such, prior**
**period comparatives used below have**
**been pro-rated as appropriate.**
**Income for the period was £41k (£37k),**
**with the movement a result of new**
**funding from the Ford Fellowship and**
**Kyran Bracken foundation, in addition**
**to fundraising for our COVID-19**
**response.**
**Total expenditure for the year was £24k**
**(£22k), with increasing human**
**resources costs being largely offset by**
**cost-savings resulting from the**
**roll-back of in person programming and**
**projects due to COVID-19.**|
|Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held|Para 1.22|**OneRio’s reserves consist of**
**unrestricted funds that are not readily**
**available for spending, since the**
**spending of these funds may adversely**
**impact OneRio’s ability to deliver its**
**long-term aims. In line with Charity**
**Commission guidance, when**
**determining our reserves, we consider**
**only unrestricted funds that are not set**
**aside to meet future essential spending.**
**Reserves are held by OneRio for the**
**following reasons:**
**● To provide resilience in the face**
**of unforeseen financial**
**difficulties; and**
**● To facilitate future growth of**
**OneRio.**
**In determining the target level of**
**reserves to be held by OneRio, we**
**consider those that are sufficient for the**
**charity to sustain its operations for a**
**period of 12 months, should no**
**additional external funding be received.**|
|Amount of reserves held|Para 1.22|**£27,060**|
|Reasons for holding zero
reserves|Para 1.22|**N/A**|
|Details of fund materially in
deficit|Para 1.24|**N/A**|
|Explanation of any
uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going
concern|Para 1.23|**No uncertainties regarding the ability of**
**the charity to continue as a going**
**concern. The charity has sufficient**
**reserves and no liabilities.**|
