2006, preseni their report with the fmancial s￿eMents of the Chariiy for the year ended 3 l March 2024. The T￿SteeS
have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statem¢nt of Recommended Prnctice applicable
to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the FiDaucial R¢portillg Stsndard applicable in the UK alld
Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective l January 2019).
tNCORPORATION
The Ckwity was in¢orpoTated as a company limited by guaTantee on 20 January 2017.
OKIECTIVES AND AcfivTfiES
The object of the Charity ts the relief of women who are infirm, disabled or in need of convalescence by the provision
of accommodation. tn fiwtherdllce of ihe object. bllt not otherwise, the Trnstees may provide a residential home. This
is done throu¥) the 19-bed residential accommodation and care home at Crescent Holls¢ 108. The Drive. Hov4 E&st
Sussex, BN3 6GP. Where vacancies exist at the residential home wbich cannot filled by women, th¢ TTUStees may
admit to the residential home men who are infirrty disabled or in need of convalescence.
The Tn￿lee3 have paid due regard to the Charity CotDllLi5SiOll guidatLce on public benefit in deciding what activtties the
Charity ¢an und¢rtake. The T￿￿tte5 cousÉder that tlLe Charity has contillued to meet the public benefit requirement in
providtDg reli¢f and help in its provisioll of 3ccO￿￿Odatioll for peoplE who are infm, disabled or in need of
convalescence. This fits within Charitable purp05e5 given the cI￿ltieS Act 2011 and the Trustees consider that there
are no undue restri¢tii)ns on who may beD¢fit fro￿ the Charity'5 activities.

Thi5 year tw Seen $igoifi¢ant expenditure of £122.000 on maintsining th¢ fabri¢ of the iwilding. There is fwther work
to be done bu¢ fortllllately not (Trn this scal¢. Th¢ Cbartty also ¢ontinued to suffer increased ¢osts on provisions (up
17.50/0). gas (up 512%), ¢I￿triCity (up 36JO/o) and staffmg (up 16.9Yo). Our tota] exp¢nditure was up £181,240 (up
30.4Lhb ) larg¢ly due to tb¢ buildiog repairs butnoneth¢less suli to b¢ funded.
Fee incorne for this year recovered by £98,603 on l&st year (up 16.7%) wht¢b w&$ an excellent performance. Th8t
tmprovement was as aresult of fee increases per room and the benefit of the extra tncome from a full yvdr of having our
two new rooms Availabl& The Charity had to withdraw another £40,000 from its investments this year to partly cover
the costs of the building maittienance. After that withdrawal the tnvestments are showing & net decline in value of
£14,934 (£30.566 l&st year) but an illvesttllent improvetnent of £25.066 eompared to an investmellt decline of £5.566
last year. They have held up well despite the global tunnoil. AS at year end the Charity still had £188,704 invested
{£203,63D. The net rnovernent in fi￿dS for this yeaT was a deficit of £60,098 (deficit of £4,854) alI attributable to the
property lltaintenallce progr8rllme.
Pay xttd R¢muner#¢ioo
Whtle tbe rllajority of the staff have their salary linked to the Nation81 Mitiimum Wage, the senior ￿aDage￿Lellt
pet%onnel at the care home are paid a percentage above that level. All of the salaries are subject to at least annual
review by the Tn]stees in conjunctioll with the Manager of the hoTn&
Reserv&s policy
The Trustees consider the fmancial position of the Charlty to bo satisfactory 8]though obviously weaker thao last year.
The Trustees, policy is to hold a of tbree months, expenditure covered by unrestricted reserves. While our
totsl expellditure this year was £777.138 that included £122,000 of exceptional expenditure on the propety. The net
operdtional total expenses would bave been £655,138 which would requir¢ minimum net unTestricted reserves of
£163.785. Th¢ Charity is holding £18.748 cash. plus £188.704 of investments ￿￿kIllg a total of £207,452 in our
unrestricted T¢5erve& equivalent to 3.8 months. cover (4.98 l&st year). Although the reserves are reducel th¢ Trnstees
aT¢ salisfi¢d that the r¢s¢rves are sufficient.
It is the policy of the ChaLity ID invest sllrplus monies in tbe Ethi¢al Fund of th¢ chari11￿ Official Inv¢sltnent Fund
(cotF) and in the M&G ChaTifun(t although llo new iuvestw¢nis ar¢ propos¢d for this p¢riod. Tbe5¢ investment fi￿d5
are held as the Charity's resetve to cover ¢x¢¢piional ullfores¢¢n exp¢llditure and io th¢ event of a $XgnifI￿￿I drop in
income over a period of titne.

The Trnstees would ITk¢ to express their sincere appreciatiotL to the rnanagement and staff of CTescent HO￿8¢ for the
way they have Carried out their duties alld cared for the residcDt4 particularly during the extensive buildiog WOTks
undertaken in the latter half of this year.

The Charity is the successor Ix)dy to th¢ original rlwtty and wa5 registcred with the Charity Commission on 14th
Matrh 2017.
The nuTllbEr of TTus¢ees shall be not les5 than three and not more than twelve. One third (or th¢ Dumber nearest on¢
third) of th¢ Trustee5 Inust retire at each AGM bu( if eligibl4 may be reappointed. The current Trllst¢￿ are due to
retire as folEows:_

an amouut no¢ ¢x¢¢ediug £1 ea¢h. No Trust¢¢ has ally kn¢fi¢ia] inl¢r¢s( in the Chwity.
The Chainnan and the Treasurer handle the d&y-tfrd&y administration of the Charity. The Trustees meet approximately
every three months to review the ChaTitys acttvitie5, mana¥erncnt accounts and any staff or resident issues.
Mw]gg¢m¢t]t accounts are circulated Tnonthly. The day to day Tunning and management of the home is the
responsibility of the rnanager, Mrs Theresa Mcneill. Also, each month a tnT5t¢e ViSTts ihe home and formulat¢5 & report
for the other (n]stee5. C4)vering the six main areas of staff, resideThty occupancy. Frnises, events and ￿Mplaints (if
any).
Risk
Th¢ major risk is that wè bave no residents. We have I I moms that can be occupied"either by council funded residents
or privately. Chjr rates are tbe most competitive in the area and we have maititained a Minimu￿ of ocojpancy
througboul the home this year. The Trustees continue to monitor the occupancy levels and ¢ou$ider furth¢r adv¢rti5iIl&
Fir¢ is 8 substantial risk. W¢ have 18 fire ￿tinguISher8 {wat¢r, C02 and chefftical) around the buildlng plus a fire
blankeL All extinguisheT3 ar¢ servirxd annually. and the 5faff undergo Iraining every 6 ￿onths. Each iesident has a
peT8onal eva¢uatiOll Protection plan.
Infection 1$ the other major risk, but thc ho￿¢ is ¢1&7ned thoroughly daily. Health and safrty ]Dsp￿tiOnS aTe regularly
