Our trustees are local people who are|
||closely involved withtheproject.|
||The CIO holdsalltheleases-themain factory site, the visitor centresite,|
||and the strip oflandtothenorth ownedbytheneighbouring Windsor|
||family. Allthreeleases are registered. The accountsoftheolder Trust|
||have now been elosedandthe funds transferred totheClO. TheCIO|
||also now claims GiftAidinsteadofthe Trust.|
||Our Heritage Lotteryfundedrestoration project completed on March3fth,|
||2020 -justastheCovid lockdown began. After a period of complete|
||lockdown closure, Dawe's became a place wherelocalgroupssuch as|
||theW,bell-ringers and a Royal Navy MilitaryWvesChoir cametomeet|
||outside as soon as restrictions were eased.|
||2022sawtheresumption of 'normal' opening, including many group visits|
||by U3As, Probus, local history societies and car clubs.Aseriesoftalks|
||waswellreceived.|
||Asrestorationofthe Victorian works began about15years ago, we now|
||find areas where repairs havetobe redone, and thereisongoing|
||maintenanceofthemachineryetc.|
||Ahighlight was our winning the Associationforlndustrial Archaeology's|
||'2022Community EngagementAward'.This broughtust1,000whichwe|
||areusingtoaddress ourtopprioritywhichissuccession for the future.|
||Allour trustees and most volunteers are over70.|
||Weare participatinginthe2023'OdArtsFestival', a local event based on|
||theRiverOdwhich flows through East and West Cokerandwhich brings|
||alarge, very different and generally younger audience.Wehave ourown|
||'artist in residence' and the organisers are supporting usinour|
||recruitment campaign.|
||Our income-which is now almost entirely donations-continuestomeet|
||all our outgoings, despitethelarge increase in electricitycosts.The|
||decisionswemade6years ago forthenew visitor centre-a heat pump|
||and underfloor heating, plus LED lighting and good insulation everywhere|
||have been proved conect.|
