This is when dixussions have made regarding cha5 to fee5 and the restricth)n5 plad on which vet Costs will be the burden of the tharity or of the adopter. Policies and pmcedures have been revwritten to ensure tpUblIC at large reco8nise their responsibilitywhen fostering a dog 50 that unnecessary costs are a¥0ed. PHOENIX FRENCH BULLDOG RESCUE REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2024 REVIEW OFTHE YEAR F¥202312024 has seen no dTrmini5hmert in the num1 of dogs bng surrendered for a multitijde of reason5, including an alarming number of Frenth Bulldogs belng fou1 as stray& These abandoned doss have been token into Do8 Warden care acw the UK and many a unckimed resultin8 in the need for them to find rescue space or to be euthanized. Where these dogs have been assessed as do and human- fr¢endty every efftjrt has been made to 5a¥e them from certain death, and this has seen the working processes need to change from active assessment to reactive rehoming Whe safe to do so. This has caused addltlonal pre5541res on an already busy team. Phoenix F8R was aCtP in the rescue of 254 FrerKh Bulldogs and Tehomed 279 to homes during 202312024, a si8nifitant increase on the prevKsus year. Regular embarB05 had to bè implemented, where dogs could not be taken from ihe 8erral public w that the Team could regroup and concentrate on the large numbers waiknn8 to be taken in. due to a drop In the number of homes wlllln8 to take In another dog. li became virtualty impos4ble to rehome dogs needing to be the only dog, or those with medical or behavioural needs. due to the publ bein8 understandably reluctant to take on tential medical costs or need to time to re1rdin1 Costs. Major bree(l-specific surgerles became Unfe1 due to the increase In veterinary fees. so dogs In need of these were not ab to be tsken. Where a dog already in care needed t. the general public continued to be generous with their donatK¢ns through social media campaigns. Sadly, some legal ac- tions had to be started against fosterers who had taken dogs Into their care and then refused to return them or pay their adoptfi fee. These 8enefally resulted in pèyment or return before the artion came to court. but it was a fractious time and is undesirous for any charity. ACnS have been tsken to tl8hten the rehoming procedures. IncludFng raising the ag&limit of those belng accepted. to avoid similar problem5. Le55 ents We or8anized arKllor attended due to the need for the Team to maIn focused on the dat4¥ running ofthe rescue. FUTURE PLANS The coming year 14 see PhoenÉx F8R take less dogs from Council kenneL% and instead focusing more on those in need from the general public. The situation is ¥ery'chicken and e as we ponder whether not taking as many do85 from the public has meant more being abandoned arHI vrtlmately stlll arrNing in care from Council kennels. This will be continuou reviewd over the forthcomin8 year. The number of dogs in need continuès to 4)iral ever upwafds and Phoenrrt FBR ts looking to its internal administration and systerns to in(a$e the admin team ar 50 free up the general team for active do8-related dutie5. The goodwill of the Volunteer5 can never be understated. ar Phoenix continues to be gTrft with a passionate and loyal ttam who Mt only strivè for the Welfa and safety of the dog5. blrt also to supp)rt those needing to Sufrenderdogs and those wllllng to take them. gned on behalf ofthe committee_-.- T L Carylll Trustee January2015
