Achievements and performance
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity
during the year
Most of our students started the course with minimal or no qualifications
having failed to achieve at school.
Many were Not in Education Employment or Training INEETI. Almost all felt
that they could never achieve anything and had given up hope, unable to afford
a college course or gain employment. Those entitled, due to their age, to free
college education struggled in FE environments because of their additional
needs and family circumstance5.
All the students completing their planned course during the year 21-22
gained three or more qualifications.
They all achieved a level l award in Health and Safety in a Construction
Environment.
They all received specialist CSCS training
They all received support to apply for a 5 year CSCS labourer card
They all received multi-skill training including plastering, bricklaying,
painting, carpentryl.
They all achieved a Carpentry and Joinery level l Award Certificate
andlor diploma
They all received appropriate Maths, English and IT teaching
They all completed and Employability Skills Programme
They all completed a Manual Handling training course.
They all completed an asbestos awareness course.
Section E

Students who have failed to thrive at college or school succeed, often for the
first time in their lives, due to l-.1 tuition. flexible hours, being able to work at
their own pace and on going pastoral support with day to day reviews and
targets.
English, maths and IT are embedded in lessons.
Work experience is a vital part of the course and many students have the
opportunity of paid part time technician work at the workshops.
At Building 4 Hope we don't just support students in a career in Carpentry and
Joinery, we support them in whatever path they feel is suited to them.
Refreshments are provided every day.
Travel expenses are reimbursed for needy students to enable them to travel to
the centre for interviews or starting a new job depending on familv
circumstances.
All students attending Building 4 Hope are kept safe. All students have their
own person al PPE kit box. Building 4 Hope has an exemplary record of health
and safety with excellent feedback from the British safety Council "Overall you
are a brilliant centre and you are clearly committed to best practice in
delivering the Level I In Safety and Health In a Construction Environrnent."
Comments from students
"I don 't know what I would have done if I hadn't come here" P.C.
"I really enjoy learning without worrying when I make a mistake. At school I was
petrified to make a mistake" D.W.
"I was going round in circles and when the Job Centre told me about Building 4
Hope. l applied and everyone there really helped and supported me. They really
believed in me and had faith in me. I grew in confidence and was so pleased
with my first ever qualification. I got 86%. 1 got more qualifications an(1 now had
something to put on my C.V. They really helped me and I will always remember
them." M.T.
"l am now in Full Time employment and get paid well. l am happy and can now
enjoy life. Before I was really down as I did not see any future for me. It was so
much better than school. I hated going to school and felt under pressure and
struggled in all lessons. When I left school I tried college but I struggled there
too and ended up dropping out because I couldn't get on the right course
because I had no school qualifications. I cannot thank Building 4 Hope enough.
It changed my life. Everyone believed in me and I felt safe. I knew I could do the
work here. Everyone was patient and encouraged me. I now have a full time job
and they still encourage me and I can always ask for advice. I don't know what
would have happened if I hadn't Bone there. I was in a bad place and could see
no way out. When the Job Centre told me about Building 4 Hope I was so glad
they did. They were right because 8uilding 4 Hope understood me and helped
me to do well."T.P.
Comment from a Sin
le Parent My Son had a poor experience at school and
hated college. I began to see a change in him when he started at Building 4
Hope. He is much more confident and l am so thankful to everyone at Building 4
Hope. He was on a bad route before.
