Charity Commission on public benefit)
The social restrictions that resulted
from the pandemic
severely disrupted
our ability to run events for the public
benefit
in the way that The Friends ofWarnham
Local
Nature
Reserve (FoWLNR) would
normally
do so, and all
physical events were cancelled
in the year.
With the support ofa renowned
independent
ecologist,
we were able to stage an online event
in early March
2021to present the results ofhis Invertebrate
Survey of
the Reserve that was funded
by FoWLNR and which was
completed
before social restrictions
were in place.
Our newsletter
The Reedbed was issued on a quarterly
basis to Members,
while the internet website was
maintained
and social media sites on Facebook and
Twitter provided
regular updates.
Visitor Centre Mana
ement
With the aid ofvolunteers,
we would normally
meet and
greet visitors to the Reserve, collect admission fees of
behalf of Horsham
District Council {HDC)and run a cafe
for the benefit ofvisitors, seven days a week.
During the pandemic
and in line with Government
and
HDC guidance:
—the Visitor Centre was closed and cafe operated a take-
out service when permissible.
Track and Trace processes
were implemented
along with social distancing
and
appropriate
PPE.
—admission to the Reserve was free to members ofthe
public.
~Fnndin
The absence ofincome generated from admission fees
and reduced
income from the cafe
resulted
in a
substantial
reduction
in funding to
the charity (down
approximately
70%from the previous year). We very
grateful to those members
who generously
made
donations to FoWLNR to enable us to continue our
contributions
to the Reserve.
In planning
our activities, we keep
in mind our Objectives
as a Registered
Charity and the trustees
have had
regard
to the guidance
issued by the Charity Commission
on
public benefit.
