Objectives and activities

The Trustees of Pillar of Fire Intercession Group of Prayers are pleased to present their report for the financial year ended November 2023. The following outlines the significant activities carried out during the year, focusing on our mission of spreading the Gospel and serving our community through various initiatives.

1. Prayer Retreat - August 2023

In August 2023, we organised a 3-day prayer retreat that gathered participants from within our congregation and beyond. The retreat was a time of deep spiritual reflection, intercession, and fellowship, held in a serene location that facilitated focus on prayer and renewal. The retreat was attended by approximately 67 participants and included worship sessions, Bible study, and personal prayer sessions, helping individuals reconnect with God and recharge their spiritual lives. We are grateful for the volunteers and the ministry team that led the various sessions. Testimonies from attendees indicated renewed faith, healing, and spiritual breakthrough.

2. Women's Ministry Prayer Outings

The Women's Ministry had a fruitful year, marked by regular prayer gatherings and a special prayer outing organised. This outdoor prayer initiative, led by the women's fellowship, focused on praying for the community in Coventry, families, and the church. These sessions provided an opportunity for the women to bond spiritually and uplift each other in prayer, leading to personal growth and collective empowerment. These meetings have become a key part of the Women's Ministry, with an increasing number of attendees and testimonies of answered prayers.

3. Church Evangelism and Mission Conference in Togo

The church participated in an international mission, sending a delegation to Togo for a Church Evangelism and Mission Conference. The conference was hosted by Eglise Pentecotiste De Zangera Temple Si Precieux Lome in Togo and focused on equipping believers with tools for effective evangelism. Our team, consisting of 2 delegates, played an active role in the teachings and outreach programs. The mission saw several converts, and many attendees were inspired to carry out their evangelistic mission within their communities. The connections made during this event have led to ongoing partnerships with the Togo-based church, helping to extend our ministry's reach beyond the UK.

4. Coventry Town Prayer and Evangelism

Locally, in Coventry, UK, our church continued its weekly prayer and evangelism initiative. Every Saturday, teams of volunteers would gather in the town to pray for the community and engage with the public. Through these efforts, the church has been able to connect with people who might not have otherwise entered a church building. We handed out Christian literature, prayed with individuals, and engaged in conversations about faith. This initiative has not only expanded our outreach but also increased our visibility in the local community, with several people subsequently attending our services.

5. Monthly Youth and Women's Conferences

Our commitment to discipleship and community development continued through the monthly conferences. Youth Conference: Held on the first Saturday of every month, these sessions focused on encouraging spiritual growth, leadership skills, and providing a space for young people to connect with God and each other. Attendance has been steadily increasing, and the youth have actively engaged in discussions on faith, identity, and purpose. Women's Conference: Held on the second Friday of each month, the Women's Ministry held gatherings aimed at equipping women in their spiritual journeys and everyday lives. These conferences featured guest speakers, worship, and prayer sessions. They have been pivotal in nurturing spiritual growth, fostering sisterhood, and providing practical support for women in the congregation.

Plans for future periods

The trustees recognise that while significant progress has been made in the past year, there is always room for improvement. In the coming year, we aim to build on the success of our current activities with the following improvements: 1. Enhanced Prayer Retreat Experience: We plan to increase the number of attendees, including more guest speakers and a wider variety of workshops. We will also explore providing an online option for those unable to attend in person.

  1. Expanded Women's Ministry Initiatives: The Women's Ministry will continue its prayer outings but will also introduce a mentoring program to support younger women in their spiritual and personal growth. 3. Increased Local Engagement in Coventry: We will strengthen our evangelism efforts in Coventry by partnering with other local churches for joint outreach events. Plans are underway to hold seasonal events, such as summer fairs or Christmas outreaches, that include both prayer and practical support for the community.

  2. Youth and Women's Conference Enhancements: We intend to invite more dynamic guest speakers, include workshops on practical topics (such as financial management and mental health), and provide opportunities for attendees to engage in more hands-on activities during the conferences. Additionally, we plan to introduce follow-up sessions for conference attendees to ensure continuous spiritual growth. The trustees believe that these activities will not only continue to bless the community but will also lead to greater spiritual growth and impact in the coming year. We are committed to fulfilling the charity's mission and are grateful for the support of all who contribute to these efforts.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Pillar of Fire Intercession Group of Prayers

Year ended 4 November 2023

I report to the trustees on my examination of the financial statements of Pillar of Fire Intercession Group of Prayers ('the charity') for the year ended 4 November 2023.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity's financial statements carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the financial statements do not accord with those records; or

  3. the financial statements do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

3. Accounting policies (continued)

Incoming resources

All incoming resources are included in the statement of financial activities when entitlement has passed to the charity; it is probable that the economic benefits associated with the transaction will flow to the charity and the amount can be reliably measured. The following specific policies are applied to particular categories of income:

Resources expended

Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis as a liability is incurred. Expenditure includes any VAT which cannot be fully recovered, and is classified under headings of the statement of financial activities to which it relates:

All costs are allocated to expenditure categories reflecting the use of the resource. Direct costs attributable to a single activity are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs are apportioned between the activities they contribute to on a reasonable, justifiable and consistent basis.

Financial instruments

A financial asset or a financial liability is recognised only when the charity becomes a party to the contractual provisions of the instrument.

Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at the amount receivable or payable including any related transaction costs.

3. Accounting policies (continued)

Financial instruments (continued)

Current assets and current liabilities are subsequently measured at the cash or other consideration expected to be paid or received and not discounted.

Debt instruments are subsequently measured at amortised cost.

Where investments in shares are publicly traded or their fair value can otherwise be measured reliably, the investment is subsequently measured at fair value with changes in fair value recognised in income and expenditure. All other such investments are subsequently measured at cost less impairment.

Other financial instruments, including derivatives, are initially recognised at fair value, unless payment for an asset is deferred beyond normal business terms or financed at a rate of interest that is not a market rate, in which case the asset is measured at the present value of the future payments discounted at a market rate of interest for a similar debt instrument.

Other financial instruments are subsequently measured at fair value, with any changes recognised in the statement of financial activities, with the exception of hedging instruments in a designated hedging relationship.

Financial assets that are measured at cost or amortised cost are reviewed for objective evidence of impairment at the end of each reporting date. If there is objective evidence of impairment, an impairment loss is recognised under the appropriate heading in the statement of financial activities in which the initial gain was recognised.

For all equity instruments regardless of significance, and other financial assets that are individually significant, these are assessed individually for impairment. Other financial assets are either assessed individually or grouped on the basis of similar credit risk characteristics.

Any reversals of impairment are recognised immediately, to the extent that the reversal does not result in a carrying amount of the financial asset that exceeds what the carrying amount would have been had the impairment not previously been recognised.
