The objects of the CIO are: 

1. To promote for the benefit of the public the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment.

2. To promote for the benefit of the public in the Kelham Island area, in partnership with the police, the protection of people and property from, and the prevention of, criminal acts. 

3. To promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing people from becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society. 

Throughout the course of planning and managing our activities for this the organisation has very much kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit at our trustee and strategy meetings. 

We have developed a variety of programmes and communication tools in order to reach and appeal to as many people in the community as possible. This is an ongoing process, we are learning all the time and we are improving and increasing these year on year.

All our activities and programmes are led by small teams of volunteers from the community. 

We also have a number of partnerships with the University of Sheffield that involves a number of departments providing resources, students and research for the community.

The more programmes we have developed have drawn in more community volunteers and increased the support from our local Council and charity funding bodies. 

Our latest project was the creation of “Kelham Pride”, a free one-day local event supporting the LGBTQ+ community and allies. This involved a very large number of volunteers from the neighbourhood.

|**Summary of the main**<br>**achievements of the charity**<br>**during the year**|1.<br>The main local bridge, permanently pedestrianised in 2021 has been<br>further developed as a community space with a range of publicly<br>accessible events such as “Art on the Bridge”, skateboarding, and<br>Christmas carolling around a large community Christmas tree.<br>Subsequent to work in 2023 with a group of University of Sheffield<br>(UoS) Architecture students and professional detailed costings by a<br>quantity surveyor, significant funding has been found and<br>discussions are ongoing with Sheffield City Council to create an<br>urban regeneration “park”.<br>2.<br>The Arts & Heritage Trail: this is an ongoing public-private<br>partnership to tackle anti-social behaviour and enhance the public<br>realm that also included public waste-bins and a community<br>competition.<br>3.<br>Naomi’s Corner: This continues to be one of the most popular areas<br>for a diverse range of individuals and groups to visit, relax and<br>socialise. It also has a community book exchange. It continues to be<br>maintained by a local watering and weeding volunteer team from<br>KINCA.<br>4.<br>Community Beekeeping: this has gone from strength to strength and<br>the number of hives has been slightly increased. Sales of the honey<br>have made a significant contribution to the maintenance and costs of<br>the project.<br>5.<br>Green Kelham: this is one of our most popular programmes and has<br>several purposes: i) to steward the river and nature running through<br>the heart of the community, ii) to create new green spaces (we have<br>very few being in the city centre), iii) provide an opportunity for<br>people to get to know one another through exercise and fresh air, iv)<br>learn new skills.<br>Apart from continuing the existing programmes of river clean-ups,<br>community beekeeping and developing more green spaces, we<br>continue to develop a network of strategic and practical partnerships<br>with a range of local and regional groups that enable us to support<br>and develop inter-neighbourhood activities. Examples would be<br>working with the Environment Agency and the River Stewardship<br>Company to link up a chain of conservation and ecological projects<br>along the River Don. This year we have also worked with Riverlution<br>(a CIC) who bring their trainees to undertake river bank/conservation<br>skills on our historical Norman millrace and provide free services to<br>maintain the millrace, as well as supervise our own volunteers<br>working on the river and millrace.<br>6. “The Islander”: This is a full colour newsletter in a magazine format<br>steered by a local residents’ team of very skilled people. It is hugely<br>popular and contains local interviews, updates on projects,<br>opportunities for community participation, and local news. The<br>newsletter is funded by local council Ward Pot funds and donations.<br>7. Clean Kelham: our regular litter-picking project continued to be very<br>popular throughout the year.<br>8. “Kelham Pride”: this was the first year that we organised Sheffield’s<br>first big LGBTQ+ pride event (the first in the city since 2018). It was a<br>huge success drawing over 8,000 attendees over the free one-day|

event. It required an enormous amount of planning and coordination over many months. It involved the local city council, police, emergency services, traffic management, local businesses, residents, scores of local volunteers, donors/sponsors, as well as local charities. It involved 11 workstreams with a volunteer core team of 22 and additionally 50 event volunteers on the day. 

We have received the go-ahead from the City Council and associated statutory bodies for organising another Kelham Pride in 2025. 

All our activities are steered by volunteers, we have no employees.

## **Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Kelham Island & Neepsend Community Alliance** 

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of **Kelham Island & Neepsend Community Alliance** for the year ended **31 December 2024** . 

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the charity’s trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the **Charities Act 2011** (“the Act”). 

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under **section 145 of the Act** and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable **Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b)** of the Act. 

An independent examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention: 

1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements: `o` to keep accounting records in accordance with **section 130 of the Charities Act 2011** ; and
