During the course of the year monthly ‘speaker’ meeting are held and attended by perhaps 100 members each time. At the end of this accounting period there were 489 full members 19 Associate members and 16 Honorary members

The talks cover a wide range of topics, from local history to matters of particular interest to the demographic of the membership. There is also a time for members to socialise and a number of our Interest Groups are also represented at the meetings.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

We were particularly keen to encourage people to return to attending our monthly meetings, after the restrictions of the Pandemic period, and to resume full engagement with our Interest Groups.

By the end of the period the number of Interest Groups had risen to 36 with membership ranging from 120, in the case of the Gardening Group to perhaps just eight or nine in the case of our Poetry Group for example. Membership of all the Interest Groups is open to all members of Retford u3a and subjects range from book groups to a range of craft activities, walking and cycling, history, painting, poetry, photography, gardening and flower arranging. Interest groups raise funds from their membership to cover their costs of Hall Hire, refreshments and materials etc.and in some cases to take their groups out to places of interest, and these funds are held in accounts separate from those of Retford u3a and kept as restricted funds for use of the individual groups only.

During the course of the year eleven monthly ‘speaker’ meeting were held, open to all members of Retford u3a. In addition, 36 interest groups, following the ethos of shared, participative and self-help learning were active during the course of the year, resulting not only in an increase in knowledge, but also a supportive, inclusive and friendly atmosphere which enables everyone to participate.

A members newsletter, The Not so Idle Times, is created each month and distributed to members by email, with hard copy available at the monthly meetings. This provides the members with information about what is happening in Retford u3a, in the wider Third Age Trust and also highlights activities of the interest groups.
