Chairman’s Report 2022

Despite ongoing issues with Covid the club has continued to thrive. I think the vast majority of us are delighted to be playing face to face bridge again. The club is now open for play on five days a week with an online session on Thursday evening. An imperative for the club is to attract new members and clearly this has been difficult over the past 2 years. A new beginners course

commenced on 26th May and it is hoped there will be at least 8 regular participants. Many thanks to Graham Cox for giving up his time to provide the teaching. My thanks also to all those who helped with publicity. Graham also continues to organise the lockdown league which remains very popular. A particular issue for the club was low attendance on a Monday evening. George Farnan proposed that we have a teams session on Monday evenings with invitations made to other local clubs and this has proved very popular. My thanks also to Chris Patrick for his support with this, and also for continuing to organise the deals for the club events. The club now has a defibrillator which has also been made available to the local community. My thanks to Brian Dakers for organising this. Thanks also to our treasurer, Rosemary Wallace, for all her hard work. And of course special thanks to our secretary, Allan Davies. As well as the numerous and time consuming duties involved in the day to day running of the club he continues to provide twice weekly teaching sessions. My thanks also to the other committee members who give up their time to help running the club. There have been some notable successes for the club over the past year. Wearside A were a very creditable second in division A of the North East Inter-club League. Congratulations to Tony Watson who is now a 1 star premier tournament master, and Brian Pacey who is a 5 star regional master.
