1.19|**Open to the Community**- Although it was again
another challenging year, managed with COVID 19 , in
the early and middle of 2021 when we were able to
operate we offered FREE of CHARGE Kayaking Taster
sessions, as usual.|
**Sports Development - The Weights Gym –** Since its inception in 2020 there has been significant participation by the DIV 1 to 6 Marathon and Sprint members of the Club – supported by our in-house fitness Coach. **Circuits and Ergos –** Following our return to near normal activities, these sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings have been well attended. **Talent Club –** Although this year has not gone as any of us have planned, we have still made progress, early on we were unsuccessful in our application to become a Talent Club Partner, however we are now preparing our plan to become a Talent Club Associate. Key plans for 2021/22 include a junior focused online development programme, the extension of capacity testing and subsequent data sharing across the club, and further development of the gym. **Coaches –** The new coaches have been finding their feet with their new groups and these continue to develop well. **Coaching sessions -** Our Saturday sessions remain our key area where we see newcomers at our monthly Tasters which have now got back up and running, however, there has not been the same pick-up by the public as we saw before the pandemic, but no doubt this will expand as more people become more used to having to live with COVID-19. **Sprint –** Across 2021 our valiant Sprint team had 16 athletes and some fantastic success, with one being selected to go to the Junior World Championships and one selected for the Olympic Hopes regatta. There were 3 open National regattas in Nottingham this year and our Athletes brought back a host of national titles. One of the highlights however was the addition of five new faces to the team at the Macgregor Regatta, currently 12th in the Magregor Paddle and 5th in the Club Medals competition, and although we could score more highly by only allowing our paddlers to race with other Southampton Paddlers we do not believe this is in our paddlers best interests. There are clear gaps that we did not achieve in our Sprint plan this year - most notably the running of a regatta, however we are hopeful that we can take this on next year. The committee continue to support the K4 program and have applied for a grant to purchase a new trailer to allow us to transport the K4s to events and regattas.
|||**Wild Water -**
Our Wild Water progress this year had really stalled
but we are hopeful that we will be able to run an
event again next year and hope that other coaching
groups start using the Wavehoppers for practice
and skills training.
**Marathon -**
Not a normal year but great to have been able to
host a race and see some faces out and about at
the other couple of races that have been held.
Looking forward to the return of the race season,
the MRC race entry system is working well.
**Welfare Officer –**
Has been updating all policies and codes of
conduct in line with British Canoeing requirements
and national legislation and ensuring that all
Coaches and other volunteers are familiar with
these and where appropriate ensured that safe-
guarding training has been updated or completed to
meet these revised regulatory criteria.
To this end we are advised that:-
All Coaches are compliant
All Procedures and policies are up to date and
visible on the website.
**Liaison with other Clubs in the Area**– We have
continued to develop links with Poole Harbour
Canoe Club, Hamble Canoe Club and Hamble Sea
Scouts by organising local Hare and Hound race
events, when possible to do so, which attract their
membership to the sport of marathon kayak racing
and equally promotes the presence of both their
club and ours to all participants in so doing.|

in mind the Charity Commission's guidance on
public benefit at our trustee meetings.
The main activities as described earlier are :-
1. We have offered 'Open to the community' FREE
of CHARGE Taster sessions when able to do so, as
limited by the COVID-19 rules and regulations.
2. Provision of an Amateur Sport Development
programme supported by trained coaches for all
ages and abilities, has remained possible for those
able to take part in sessions.
3. Whilst we had wished to offer a racing calendar
of events for both local people and participants from
further afield - to allow them to use the skills they
have learnt in a competitive environment, this was
limited by the COVID-19 rules and as such very few
events were possible during this period.
4. Continuing to develop links with other clubs to
offer an outlet for the development of kayaking
together with their own activities, had also been|
difficult due to the COVID-19 limitations. All the above activities benefit all ages and abilities in developing their self confidence and social skills, whilst maintaining their health and mental wellbeing by actively participating in a sports activity with other like-minded participants.

funds to pay to maintain the training of its
volunteer coaches to run the Monthly Taster
sessions for the general public at NO CHARGE to
all those that attend and it does not pass this
training cost onto attendees. We are also
developing our portfolio of available coaches by
training new coaches as and when persons show
the aptitude to do so. Our funds also extend to
maintaining our fleet of kayaks, paddles and
buoyancy aids which are used by all new-comers
for the early years of their involvement at no
extra cost until such time as they wish to buy
their own equipment.|
|Contribution made by
volunteers|Para 1.38|All the Coaches, Administrators and Officers of
the Club offer their time freely and at no cost to
Southampton Canoe Club. This enables the Club
to offer their facilities and coaching at the
lowest possible costs for all those who wish to
become full members of the club.|

of its Volunteer Coaches and Committee
Members in continuing to meet the Charities
Objectives.
Although membership tends to fluctuate year on
year the volunteers continue to develop new
ideas and coaching methods which has meant
that we have been able to again extend our
membership to near 100 in this last exceptional
financial year.
We have also been able to maintain interest in
training through the winter evenings by
operating ERGO machine and Circuit Training
sessions twice a week which has been open to
all club members to attend free of charge as part
of their membership.
The development of a weight -training gym has
meant that members have been able to weight
train at our own site, and this continues to
develop.|

Woodmill Activity centre site and we are continuing to
explore a way to have a more permanent structure on
site which we can call our own - this remains in the early
development stage but still is an ongoing project for the
next few years.
The main aims of the Club are to not only get more
people active but to develop those people into talented
athletes in the field of kayaking.
In order to measure our achievement in this area we are
always keen to demonstrate this by their singular
achievements across the year.
**Help to develop international paddlers –**
One of the Club’s best years for international
competition, with a number of juniors being selected to
represent GB.
One has had a fantastic year, being selected for the
Junior K2 1000m World Championships in Portugal. There
was some exciting racing with one of our members
together with a member from Elmbridge finishing 2nd
place in the B final .
One member has also been selected for the Marathon
World Championships in Romania.
One of our ladies has done amazingly well this year,
being selected for Olympic Hopes regatta in Czech
Republic .
Also, fantastic achievements for 3 members who had
been selected to represent GB in the Development
Marathon Team, racing at the French National
Championships. Unfortunately, they were unable to take
part due to Covid-19 restrictions in France.
**Attendance at Hasler Finals 2021 -**
No Hasler final this year due to Covid-19.
**Waterside Series 2021 –**
No Waterside series this year, again due to Covid-19.
**Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race**
**2021–**Unfortunately, no DW this year for the same
reason.|
**Sprint Races Results –** The regatta program at Nottingham had some changes due to Covid-19, however, to the Sprint Committee’s credit, several regattas took place. This is an area where we are making steady but significant progress, thanks to our Sprint Team Captain and supporting Fitness Coach. 1.41|Our funding officer had been successful in gaining funding from various
commercial enterprises, to support the club and we thank her for her
continued sterling efforts in this regard.
We had an application in for £1950 for gym equipment.
£1,000 secured to buy a K4 boat
We submitted an application to try to source funding for a K4 trailer as
well – this is ongoing.|

A local manufacturer kindly funded the rental of the Portaloos at our
Hasler race.
Lots of opportunities to revisit with the supermarkets again now and
would like to help source funded kit as well.
**Funding Aims for 2022**- The coming year again could be trickier as grants
available will be focused on those suffering significant hardship from
Covid-19.
Our membership numbers are down so we will need to work hard at
recruiting and retaining members which will be our main source of
income, plus, as ususal, continue to spot funding opportunities for new
projects.|
