**Sports Development  - The Weights Gym –** Since its inception in 2020 there has been significant participation by the DIV 1 to 6 Marathon and Sprint members of the Club – supported by our in-house fitness Coach. **Circuits and Ergos –** Following our return to near normal activities, these sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings have been well attended. **Talent Club –** Although this year has not gone as any of us have planned, we have still made progress, early on we were unsuccessful in our application to become a Talent Club Partner, however we are now preparing our plan to become a Talent Club Associate. Key plans for 2021/22 include a junior focused online development programme, the extension of capacity testing and subsequent data sharing across the club, and further development of the gym. **Coaches –** The new coaches have been finding their feet with their new groups and these continue to  develop well. **Coaching sessions  -** Our Saturday sessions remain our key area where we see newcomers at our monthly Tasters which have now got back up and running, however, there has not been the same pick-up by the public as we saw before the pandemic, but no doubt this will expand as more people become more used to having to live with COVID-19. **Sprint –** Across 2021 our valiant Sprint team had 16 athletes and some fantastic success, with one being selected to go to the Junior World Championships and one  selected for the Olympic Hopes regatta. There were 3 open National regattas in Nottingham this year and our Athletes brought back a host of national titles. One of the highlights however was the addition of five new faces to the team at the Macgregor Regatta, currently 12th in the Magregor Paddle and 5th in the Club Medals competition, and although we could score more highly by only allowing our paddlers to race with other Southampton Paddlers we do not believe this is in our paddlers best interests. There are clear gaps that we did not achieve in our Sprint plan this year - most notably the running of a regatta, however we are hopeful that we can take this on next year. The committee continue to support the K4 program and have applied for a grant to purchase a new trailer to allow us to transport the K4s to events and regattas. 



|||**Wild Water -**<br>Our Wild Water progress this year had really stalled<br>but we are hopeful that we will be able to run an<br>event again next year and hope that other coaching<br>groups start using the Wavehoppers for practice<br>and skills training.<br>**Marathon -**<br>Not a normal year but great to have been able to<br>host a race and see some faces out and about at<br>the other couple of races that have been held.<br>Looking forward to the return of the race season,<br>the MRC race entry system is working well.<br>**Welfare Officer –**<br>Has been updating all policies and codes of<br>conduct in line with British Canoeing requirements<br>and national legislation and ensuring that all<br>Coaches and other volunteers are familiar with<br>these and where appropriate ensured that safe-<br>guarding training has been updated or completed to<br>meet these revised regulatory criteria.<br>To this end we are advised that:-<br>All Coaches are compliant<br>All Procedures and policies are up to date and<br>visible on the website.<br>**Liaison with other Clubs in the Area**– We have<br>continued to develop links with Poole Harbour<br>Canoe Club, Hamble Canoe Club and Hamble Sea<br>Scouts by organising local Hare and Hound race<br>events, when possible to do so, which attract their<br>membership to the sport of marathon kayak racing<br>and equally promotes the presence of both their<br>club and ours to all participants in so doing.|

We have offered 'Open to the community' FREE<br>of CHARGE Taster sessions when able to do so, as<br>limited by the COVID-19 rules and regulations.<br>2. Provision of an Amateur Sport Development<br>programme supported by trained coaches for all<br>ages and abilities, has remained possible for those<br>able to take part in sessions.<br>3. Whilst we had wished to offer a racing calendar<br>of events for both local people and participants from<br>further afield - to allow them to use the skills they<br>have learnt in a competitive environment, this was<br>limited by the COVID-19 rules and as such very few<br>events were possible during this period.<br>4. Continuing to develop links with other clubs to<br>offer an outlet for the development of kayaking<br>together with their own activities, had also been|





difficult due to the COVID-19 limitations. All the above activities benefit all ages and abilities in developing their self confidence and social skills, whilst maintaining their health and mental wellbeing by actively participating in a sports activity with other like-minded participants.

|Other||The Trustees wish to recognise the contribution<br>of its Volunteer Coaches and Committee<br>Members in continuing to meet the Charities<br>Objectives.<br>Although membership tends to fluctuate year on<br>year the volunteers continue to develop new<br>ideas and coaching methods which has meant<br>that we have been able to again extend our<br>membership to near 100 in this last exceptional<br>financial year.<br>We have also been able to maintain interest in<br>training through the winter evenings by<br>operating ERGO machine and Circuit Training<br>sessions twice a week which has been open to<br>all club members to attend free of charge as part<br>of their membership.<br>The development of a weight -training gym has<br>meant that members have been able to weight<br>train at our own site, and this continues to<br>develop.|

|Summary of the main<br>achievements of the<br>charity, identifying the<br>difference the charity’s<br>work has made to the<br>circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and any<br>wider benefits to<br>society as a whole.|Para 1.20|We continue to work together with Active Nation at the<br>Woodmill Activity centre site and we are continuing to<br>explore a way to have a more permanent structure on<br>site which we can call our own - this remains in the early<br>development stage but still is an ongoing project for the<br>next few years.<br>The main aims of the Club are to not only get more<br>people active but to develop those people into talented<br>athletes in the field of kayaking.<br>In order to measure our achievement in this area we are<br>always keen to demonstrate this by their singular<br>achievements across the year.<br>**Help to develop international paddlers –**<br>One of the Club’s best years for international<br>competition, with a number of juniors being selected to<br>represent GB.<br>One has had a fantastic year, being selected for the<br>Junior K2 1000m World Championships in Portugal. There<br>was some exciting racing with one of our members<br>together with a member from Elmbridge finishing 2nd<br>place in the B final .<br>One member has also been selected for the Marathon<br>World Championships in Romania.<br>One of our ladies has done amazingly well this year,<br>being selected for Olympic Hopes regatta in Czech<br>Republic .<br>Also, fantastic achievements for 3 members who had<br>been selected to represent GB in the Development<br>Marathon Team, racing at the French National<br>Championships.  Unfortunately, they were unable to take<br>part due to Covid-19 restrictions in France.<br>**Attendance at Hasler Finals 2021 -**<br>No Hasler final this year due to Covid-19.<br>**Waterside Series 2021 –**<br>No Waterside series this year, again due to Covid-19.<br>**Devizes to Westminster International  Canoe Race**<br>**2021–**Unfortunately, no DW this year for the same<br>reason.|





**Sprint Races Results –** The regatta program at Nottingham had some changes due to Covid-19, however, to the Sprint Committee’s credit, several regattas took place. This is an area where we are making steady but significant progress, thanks to our Sprint Team Captain and supporting Fitness Coach.
