INTRODUCTION

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Youth on the Move (London) continues to support disadvantaged young people across Hackney and Haringey by creating opportunities that improve wellbeing, educational outcomes, and future prospects.

During the year, the charity remained financially stable despite continued economic pressures, including the cost-ofliving crisis and increased demand for youth support services.

Prudent financial management, strong volunteer involvement, and in-kind support from partner organisations enabled us to maintain and expand services while managing operational costs effectively. We secured a range of restricted grants for programme delivery, alongside unrestricted support from donors and community funders. These resources strengthened our reserves and improved our ability to plan for sustainable growth.

Founded in 2016 , the charity exists to address the growing social and economic inequalities affecting young people aged 11–16 . Through a broad range of educational , creative , health , and wellbeing programmes , we provide meaningful opportunities for young people to develop confidence, practical skills, and resilience.

Our work supports young people who are often excluded from mainstream extracurricular opportunities due to poverty, social isolation, overcrowded living conditions, and emotional challenges. By creating safe, trusted spaces, we enable participants to thrive personally, socially, and academically.

The trustees remain committed to prudent governance and ensuring funds are directed efficiently towards charitable activities.

THE NEED FOR OUR SERVICES

Many young people in Hackney and Haringey continue to face significant disadvantage. Poverty, overcrowded housing, financial hardship, and reduced access to enrichment opportunities negatively affect mental wellbeing, educational attainment, and aspirations.

Recent feedback from service users highlights rising anxiety , social isolation , and low confidence among young people , particularly post-pandemic. Demand for trusted, communitybased support remains high, with several programmes operating waiting lists.

Our trustees, many of whom work directly within education, witness these challenges daily and ensure services respond to real and emerging community needs.

Young and Wealthy

Talking Matters

A youth-led performing arts project supporting 200 young people aged 11-16 where participants developed confidence, teamwork, and communication through drama workshops, rehearsals, and public performances for the wider community.

An accredited financial education programme delivered with Mesila, enabling 60 disadvantaged girls aged 1516 to complete the ATHE Level 2 Certificate in Financial Studies and develop essential money management skills.

A non-clinical emotional wellbeing programme supporting approximately 100 young people aged 11–16 , providing trusted mentoring and open discussion sessions for young people experiencing anxiety, low confidence, and social pressures.

Sport-a-Way

A residential countryside sports project supporting 40 disadvantaged young people aged 14–16 , combining outdoor recreation, team-building, and confidencebuilding activities, offering young people access to experiences beyond their urban environment.

Pathways: Engaging the Disengaged

A structured midweek retreat programme supporting 40 at-risk young people , focused on personal development, life skills, and positive peer relationships for young people at risk of disengagement.

Water Wow

A water-based activity programme supporting approximately 50 young people aged 11–14 , introducing young people to swimming and water confidence activities, helping reduce anxiety and improve physical wellbeing.

Slow and Steady

A dedicated swimming programme for 40 girls aged 15–16 , supporting water safety, confidence, physical health, and personal resilience through regular supervised sessions.

Weekly netball sessions supporting approximately 100 girls aged 11–16 , designed to improve fitness, teamwork, leadership skills, and confidence among disadvantaged girls.

A dance fitness initiative supporting 200 girls aged 11–16 , promoting exercise, stress reduction, and emotional wellbeing through twice-weekly movement-based sessions.

Hungry No More

NourishHub

A practical family support initiative providing food vouchers to approximately 200 disadvantaged families facing severe financial hardship during periods of increased need.

A practical cooking and nutrition programme supporting approximately 100 young people , teaching healthy meal preparation, budgeting, and food sustainability.
