TRUSTEE REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2024 The year began with the Society in a good financial p)sition and a varied and exciting programme of shows and events to look forward to. The first item on the Social agenda was our ever popular Quiz Night. Held on 20 January, the event was well supported and as always, keenly contested. Thanks go to Bob Lester for once again displaying his skills in organising the evening. The f￿st production of the year was a bit of a departure in so much as we took Mr Shakespeare indoors for a change and presented a Wmter production of one of his works. Loves Labour's Lost was presented at The Royal Hippodrome Theatre from January 24 - 28 and attracted very good audiences to see a highly talented c&st brAng the play to life. The audiences came in such good numbers in fact that the production made a profit of £1,397.00. Thanks must go to Director Peter Boon and his team for a masterful working of a very funny play. The next production running from March 8 -1 O , brought us a little nearer home, Worthing to be precise, when Director Val DOrn￿dY bmught the hilarious play, Habeas Corpus, to the EODS Centre. Well done to all involved for your hard worl which was rewarded with full houses and a profit of £1,137. With hardly time to draw brea￿ we were back at the Hippodrome Theatre from IP - 20 April for the wonderful musical Kinky Boots. How everyone managed to wall( and dance in bigh heeled boots was a mirncle but somehow everyone achieved the challenge. Perforn]ed in front of large and enthusiastic audiences this story of love, acceptance and self discovery, made a terrific profit of £9.698.00. con￿atUlatIOnS and thanks go to Director Gareth Brighton and his team- thc lovely Nom for her choreography and the ever gorgeous Uncle Oscar for his expertise &s Musical Director. Plus, we must not forget everyone back stage who gave up their time to help in the production. Saturday June 15 saw members of the Society gather, in all their fmery, at The Royal Eastbourne Golf Club, to enjoy the EODS Annual Ball. Good forf good wine and good music from Brotherhood ensured a wonderful time was had by all. Thank you Bob Lester for all your hard work in organising the evening. It was off to school from 13 - 14 July when we were introduced to a very clever little girl and the formidable Miss Trunchbull as Young EODS pr¢sented the popular and endearing musical Matilda. In class at the Library Theatre, this Roald Dahl MaSte￿ieCe proved a hit with the audiences who came in large numbers to support the show. So large in fact that the production realised an excellent profit of £5,586. Congratulations go to Director Lisa Waterhouse and team for producing such a t￿TIfiC show. Thanks also to the arn]y of parents and helpers who did so much to SUp￿rt the production. Only l O sleeps later and we were in the world of Shakespeare again to witness some Merry Wives of Windsor, teach a lesson to that naughty knight Sir John Falstaff. This production was not without it's challenges, with three weeks to go before the opening nigbL our original Falstaff, Mike Barber, had to withdraw due to ill health. Undaunted, Neil Russell stepped into the breach and gave an excellent perfonnance. Talk about the show must go on. Full of larger than life characters and brilliant comic moments, this Elizabethan situation comedy had the audiences Toaring with laughter from start to finish. Perfornled from July 24 - 3 August in the Italian Gardens, our annual open air production realised a profit of £5,115. A fitting tribute to the cast and membership for all their enornious hard work and cojnmitment. An extra mention here for Ash Jones who designed and built the excellent set and for Graeme Herber¢ costume master extraordinaire, who created the

amazing costumes. Huge congratulations go to Director Peter Boon for a brilliant show and for his Visio￿ enthusiasm and sheer hard work in bringing this famous play to life in such an inspired and original way. th In December, on the 17 to be precise. the EODS choir presented an evening of Carols at the Hydro Hotel. This evening has become very much part of the Society year and is a highlight of the season for many members and friends. It also contributes a gratefully received sum for the Society. Well what a year. Every Production made a profit and the interest in the Society has grown to new heights, as born out by the number of people wanting to be part of our shows. Nearly ninety attended the first familiarisation evening for Kinky Boots and for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (report next year), over sixty for each of the two Shakespeare plays and let's not forget the growth and progress of Young EODS. Having this number of people auditioning for EODS shows is fantastic and very encouraging for the future of the Society. Long may it continue. While we are talking about our successes, I thiDk it only right to recognise the huge part our fonner chairma￿ Peter Boon, has pIayed in the success of the Society and particulaTly in the success of the Shakespeare productions. His enthusiasm, knowledge and love of the bard generated huge excitement and motivated members of all ages and experience and persuaded them to get involve(L even if they had never read a word of Shakespeare before. The offer he accepted to pursue a new and unique opportunity was well deserved and we wish him all the very best wishes for the future. And now. a little nod to past members who gave a final bow in 2024:_ To Glenda Ayres who for many years dressed hair and applied rnake up for cast members both male and female and appeared herself in a number of productions. Hair stylisL n￿k¢ up expe¢ actress, artist and beautiful person. To Ruth Shand, fornier Society Gen¢r&l Secretary, Committee member, actress, siJJger. props Tnistress and member for over seventy years. Thank you for everything you did for the Society and for the unforgettable after show parties. Legend. To Anne Young. a bravura actress who acted in a number of plays. and had great stage presence and comic timing. Kind and caring off stsge she was a tour de force on stage. Unforgettable. And to Mike Barber, actOT. singer. all round great bloke and friend. Taken too soon but will be remembered always. Genius. 2024 was a great year for EODS. With continued excellence on stage coupled with continued good financial control we can look forward to hopefully repeating that success and achieving an even more improved picture for the coming years.
